PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fabio Iago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuckie Liddiell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Iago comes into the arena with One More Time blaring out of the sound system. Liddiell is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Time For War. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabio Iago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chuckie Liddiell!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddiell looks to land a combination. Iago sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.


It looks like Fabio Iago has been cut.
Liddiell connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Liddiell gets caught flat footed, as Iago shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Iago tries to free his leg and advance position but Liddiell is retaining full guard.

Iago is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Liddiell is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Liddiell has escaped and now he's on top!

Iago is looking for a triangle but Liddiell pushes his legs off easily.
Iago has a closed guard, preventing Liddiell from standing up.

Liddiell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Iago. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Liddiell is taking a breather. Iago says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Liddiell frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Liddiell is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Iago can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

The referee warns Iago that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Iago is working to get back to half guard.

Liddiell's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Iago is bucking up trying to escape but Liddiell cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Liddiell shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Liddiell showed some decent athleticism there.

Iago is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Liddiell wants to stand up but Iago has a hold of him and won't allow it.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Liddiell has Iago up against the cage in a clinch.
Iago is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Liddiell gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Liddiell is pressed up against the cage. Iago has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Liddiell down to the mat. Liddiell avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Liddiell connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Iago some visible discomfort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Iago's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Let's hope that Liddiell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Liddiell ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Liddiell no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Iago has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Liddiell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Iago had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Liddiell is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Iago Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Liddiell's back instead.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Liddiell is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Iago gets his way!

Chuckie Liddiell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Liddiell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
