PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yoji Anjo Anjo (ranked 2306 p4p, 3354 weight class) and Conor OShea (ranked 291 p4p, 414 weight class). Conor OShea will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Yoji Anjo Anjo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 24 - 1, fighting out of London, Conor OShea!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Nard Betker and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OShea leaves Anjo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A nice combination there by OShea.

It looks like Yoji Anjo Anjo has been cut.
Anjo moves to clinch but OShea breaks away
and OShea counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Anjo takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

OShea fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Anjo sprawls well initially but OShea persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Anjo definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Anjo might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

OShea seems to be looking for submissions.
OShea is looking to take a break and control but Anjo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Anjo tries to get to full guard but OShea has control of the leg.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
OShea content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Anjo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

OShea throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

OShea is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
OShea working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Anjo won't allow OShea to pass to mount.

OShea wants to control but Anjo is keeping him busy.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Anjo tries to move into range but OShea moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Anjo takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Conor OShea seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Anjo moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Anjo swings around for an armbar but OShea sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Anjo's guard.
OShea keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Anjo's head.

OShea might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Anjo haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

OShea tries to free his leg and advance position but Anjo is retaining full guard.

OShea has gone for a leg lock! Anjo slips out almost immediately though and dives into OShea's guard.

Anjo is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

OShea tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
OShea wants to pass the guard but Anjo is keeping the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Anjo wants to stand and escape but OShea is having none of it.

Conor OShea showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Anjo tries to close the distance and clinch but OShea swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Anjo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into OShea's guard.

OShea is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Anjo presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

OShea lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

OShea lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!

Anjo turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Anjo manages to end up in side control.

OShea throws a right and a left that Anjo avoids nicely.
OShea is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

A punch lands to the side of Anjo 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Anjo fails with a takedown attempt.
It seemed like OShea was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Anjo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says OShea as he avoids it easily.
OShea works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
OShea keeps the fight on the outside.
Anjo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
OShea lands with an uppercut that bounces Anjo off the cage and back into range.
OShea closes the distance and clinches up with Anjo, looking for a takedown. OShea pushes Anjo against the cage but Anjo circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
OShea throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Anjo.
OShea shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Anjo eats them both and turns towards OShea to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Anjo dives in and grabs OShea's left leg, looking for a takedown. OShea pushes down on Anjo's head and hops out.

OShea looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Anjo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

OShea is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Anjo defends it well.
Anjo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
OShea wants to pass to mount but Anjo is defending the position.

OShea is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Anjo as he works his way to full guard.
Conor OShea is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well OShea has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
