PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Nowak (ranked 2405 p4p, 3691 weight class) and Danny Brook (ranked 329 p4p, 458 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jan Nowak!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Danny Brook!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nowak connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Brook's hands.

Brook looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Brook is looking to work some ground and pound but Nowak has wrist control.
Brook working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Nowak is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Nowak looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Brook puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Brook throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Nowak has hold of Brook's hands but Brook slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Brook is pressing down on Nowak's thigh, looking to free his foot. Nowak is holding on for now.

Brook looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nowak avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Brook.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nowak has his hands clasped together around Brook's back. He's all about the action.

Nowak is trying to control but can't.
Nowak is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Nowak's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Nowak has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brook is working away from the top position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Nowak is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Brook is working for a kimura but Nowak is defending it quite comfortably.
Nowak wants to control but Brook is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Brook working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Nowak keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Nowak is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Brook thows a huge punch but Nowak dodges it nicely.
Nowak definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Brook takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Nowak controlling the position for now.
Nowak tries to roll over but Brook keeps him under control.
Brook wants to pass to mount but Nowak is defending the position.
Nowak is trying to get back to full guard.
Brook lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brook winds up and cracks Nowak with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Nowak wants to sweep but Brook has passed to side control!

Brook is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nowak is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Brook working away.

Brook is putting a hurting on Nowak here, landing some big shots from side control.
Brook lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Brook is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Nowak has escaped the position, nice work there.

Brook has hold of Nowak's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Nowak tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Brook cranks the arm and Nowak screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Nowak, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Danny Brook!
Danny Brook is the new heavyweight champion!
After winning the bout, Danny Brook thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
