The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hamayashi tries for a takedown but Purpose sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Hamayashi plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Hamayashi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Purpose as he avoids it easily.
Hamayashi tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Purpose defends well and Hamayashi ends up having to push Purpose into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Hamayashi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Purpose has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hamayashi has managed to get both his arms back between Purpose's legs - danger averted.

Hamayashi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Purpose avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Purpose has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hamayashi uses from the top position.

Purpose seems to be working for a kimura but Hamayashi defends the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Purpose's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Hamayashi has a hand on Purpose's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Purpose takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

It looked like Purpose wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
