The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James just misses with a punch to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Skolz misses the target.
James looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Skolz is fending him off so far but James persists. Nope, Skolz circles away and we're back to standing.

James scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

James is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Skolz defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Skolz felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

James seems to be looking for submissions.
Skolz is trying to control but can't.
Skolz is looking for a sweep. James is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

James is pressing down on Skolz's thigh, looking to free his foot. Skolz is holding on for now.
James is thwarting Skolz's attempts to control the position.
Skolz is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but James is staying active.
James frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

James goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Skolz is on top in guard.

James had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Skolz defends it easily.

Skolz has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing James to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Skolz is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - James pulls down on the head and he's put Skolz to sleep! This one is all over!
