PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jin Chai (ranked 5089 p4p, 4866 weight class) and Rico Rodriguez (ranked 538 p4p, 530 weight class). Rodriguez has chosen Latin Lingo as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jin Chai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rico Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rodriguez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chai to the mat! Chai manages to get full guard.

Rodriguez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Rodriguez drops back looking for a leg! Chai is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chai manages to kick Rodriguez off! Rodriguez jumps back into Chai's guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rodriguez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rodriguez wants to control from the top but Chai keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Rodriguez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rodriguez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rodriguez is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Rodriguez is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Chai is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Chai has escaped and now he's on top!


Rodriguez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Chai is aware though and is defending well.

Chai slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Rodriguez has his foot on Chai's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chai works his way back into a safe position though.

Rodriguez looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Chai has picked Rodriguez up and slammed him! Rodriguez can't keep hold of the triangle and Chai manages to pass to side control!

Rodriguez has gone for a leg lock! Chai slips out almost immediately though and dives into Rodriguez's guard.

Rodriguez has his foot on Chai's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chai works his way back into a safe position though.

Chai knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rodriguez on the ground.

Rodriguez has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Chai is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Rodriguez.

You can see the frustration on Rodriguez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Chai is looking to take a break and control but Rodriguez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Rico Rodriguez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Chai counters with a three punch combo that has Rodriguez backing up. Rodriguez nods at Chai to acknowledge the strikes.
Jin Chai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rico Rodriguez.

Chai stalks Rodriguez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rodriguez's face. Rodriguez staggers backwards, shaken.

It looks like Rico Rodriguez has been cut.

and Chai counters with a crisp one two that drops Rodriguez! Chai thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Rodriguez to his feet! Rodriguez is in big trouble!

Rodriguez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Chai throws an uppercut from hell that sends Rodriguez clean off his feet! He's out cold! Chai stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:16 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Jin Chai!
