PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Edson Barboozer (ranked 3202 p4p, 2209 weight class) and Lu Wai Ping (ranked 354 p4p, 262 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lu Wai Ping!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barboozer throws a leg kick that misses.

Barboozer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Wai Ping lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Wai Ping pushes Barboozer back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Barboozer blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Wai Ping breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Barboozer lands a leg kick that knocks Wai Ping off balance momentarily.
Barboozer takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Wai Ping throws a hook to the side of Barboozer's head but Barboozer sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Wai Ping connects with a good right hand that stumbles Barboozer. Barboozer circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Barboozer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Wai Ping swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Barboozer throws a sloppy head kick and Wai Ping moves out of range easily.
Nice defenses there by Wai Ping.
Wai Ping looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wai Ping tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

A nice side step and Wai Ping releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Wai Ping! But no joy.
Barboozer cracks Wai Ping with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Wai Ping is looking to score with low kicks.
Wai Ping wants to land a leg kick but Barboozer is out of range.
Wai Ping lands with a shot to the body.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Wai Ping. Barboozer shrugs it off though.
Barboozer takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Barboozer tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Wai Ping shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Wai Ping fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Barboozer manages to avoid it.
Barboozer takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Lu Wai Ping is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Wai Ping has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Barboozer finds it's way round the side to connect with Wai Ping's head.

It looks like Lu Wai Ping has been cut.
Wai Ping feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Barboozers jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Barboozer throws a series of punches but Wai Ping avoids them all with ease.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Wai Ping.

Barboozer looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
That kick from Wai Ping tenderised Barboozer's leg. Barboozer is trying to keep his angry face on.

The fight stays on the outside here - Barboozer looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Barboozer lands a brutal head kick. Wai Ping looks out on his feet and Barboozer throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick and Punches). Edson Barboozer!
A relieved looking Edson Barboozer thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
