Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Nowak (ranked 3834 p4p, 23721 weight class) and Jonas Carvalho (ranked 459 p4p, 628 weight class). Jonas Carvalho has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jan Nowak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jonas Carvalho!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carvalho displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nowak.
Carvalho throws a left and a right that both miss

so Nowak counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Nowak is looking to advance position but Carvalho has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Nowak is wriggling around trying to escape.
Nowak is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Simply The Best, so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Nowak on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Nowak tries to get out of the position.
Carvalho avoids the attempt from Nowak to control.
Nowak is trying to escape the mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nowak wants to control but Carvalho is having none of it.

Nowak is controlling Carvalho's trapped leg to prevent Carvalho from advancing to side control.
Nowak makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nowak.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nowak is on top in guard.

Nowak wants to pass the guard but Carvalho is keeping the position.
Nowak might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Carvalho can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Nowak controls the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nowak seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Carvalho for as long as he can get away with.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nowak has a takedown stuffed.
A countering left hand to the body from Carvalho misses.
Jonas Carvalho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Nowak closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Carvalho quickly recovers to half guard.
Nowak wants to free his trapped foot but Carvalho is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Nowak's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That was a close round but I would say that Jan Nowak will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Nice sprawl there from Carvalho as Nowak shoots in.
Nowak takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Carvalho throws a nice looking combination but Nowak bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Carvalho cracks a nice hook into Nowak's ribs.
Carvalho throws a right and a left that both miss.

Carvalho keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Carvalho lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Nowak slips a jab and a cross from Carvalho.
Nowak appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Carvalho swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nowak tries for a takedown but Carvalho sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Carvalho looks like he wants to counter punch here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jan Nowak. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Carvalho pushes Nowak off looking to stand but Nowak dives back in and keeps control.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
More hug and hope from Nowak.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Carvalho swinging wildly here.
Carvalho throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Nowak counters with a single leg into guard. Carvalho didn't expect that.
Nowak is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Nowak slips nicely into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carvalho tries to kick Nowak off but Nowak keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Nowak stalling.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nowak wants to pass the guard but Carvalho is defending well.
Nowak is working hard here to advance position.
Nowak seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Nowak is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Carvalho's half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jonas Carvalho will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nowak.
Carvalho looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nowak was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Carvalho shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Nowak eats them both and turns towards Carvalho to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Carvalho looks to land a combination but Nowak avoids it well.

Carvalho connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Nowak seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Carvalho shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Nowak is backing up but Carvalho catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Nowak covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Carvalho Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jonas Carvalho!
Jonas Carvalho was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
