Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sonny Day (ranked 3885 p4p, 24962 weight class) and Atari Mason (ranked 425 p4p, 593 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sonny Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Atari Mason!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Day plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Sonny Day seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Day scores with a jab to the jaw.
Day just misses with a punch to the body.
Mason takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Day lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
A nice leg kick from Day, right into the meat of the thigh.
A slow jab from Day misses its intended target.
Mason is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Mason takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Day walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Mason is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Day misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Mason appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.

Mason shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Day cracks Mason with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
The fight stays on the outside here - Mason looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Mason has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Day finds it's way round the side to connect with Mason's head.
Day throws a hook to the side of Mason's head but Mason sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Mason takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Mason scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Day is staying active underneath Mason, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Day wants to get back to his feet.
Day is trying to maintain the position but Mason is very close to passing his half guard.
Mason stops Day from getting back to his feet.

Day manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Mason keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Mason moves forwards but Day connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Day scores with a decent looking hook.
Day connects with a leg kick.
Day will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Day uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Mason drives through with a takedown into Day's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Day looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Day lands with an uppercut that bounces Mason off the cage and back into range.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mason displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Day throws out the jab.

Day tries to bum rush Mason with a series of wild strikes but Mason uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Day goes for a double leg but Mason avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Mason continues to drive forward.

Mason moves forwards but Day connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Mason has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Day lands a glancing blow to the side of Mason's head.
Mason fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Day manages to avoid it.
Mason takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Mason is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mason shoots for a double leg takedown but Day sprawls well. He's pushed Mason's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Day changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mason tries to avoid it but Day manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mason to the ground. Mason escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Mason shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Day napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Mason is looking to take a break and control but Day is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Day throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Day bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Atari Mason has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sonny Day is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Day, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
