PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Test Fighter (ranked 3625 p4p, 5529 weight class) and Dave Hampton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Test Fighter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Dave Hampton!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Daniel Franklin and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hampton avoids the body shot from Fighter.
Fighter shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hampton sprawls well. Hampton wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fighter gets slowly back to his feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hampton is defended easily by Fighter.
Fighter throws a sloppy head kick and Hampton moves out of range easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hampton! But no joy.

Fighter instigates a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hampton fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hampton jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Fighter walks away with a smile on his face. Hampton gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Test Fighter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dave Hampton.
Fighter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hampton avoids it really well and circles away.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hampton! But no joy.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Fighter pushes Hampton up against the cage in a clinch.
Hampton tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Fighter smiles and moves away.
Fighter pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hampton shoots in looking for a takedown. Fighter tries to sprawl out of it but Hampton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fighter manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Hampton looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fighter is fending him off so far but Hampton persists. Nope, Fighter circles away and we're back to standing.

Fighter closes the distance and clinches.
Hampton tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Fighter just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hampton jumps guard but Fighter stands there with Hampton around his waist. Hampton gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hampton is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Fighter to keep the fight standing.
Hampton tries to pull guard but Fighter won't allow it.

Fighter is trying to trip Hampton. He has hold of a leg but Hampton is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Fighter persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Hampton is looking for a triangle here but Fighter uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Fighter creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hampton sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Fighter moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Fighter is trying to get an arm triangle but Hampton is defending well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
You can see the frustration on Hampton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Fighter takes a little break here. Hampton wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Fighter is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hampton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hampton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fighter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Fighter is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Fighter tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Fighter slows the pace down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hampton is trying to work for a sweep but Fighter has mounted him!
Fighter with good strikes from the mount here!
Hampton wants to hold on but Fighter pushes him away.
Hampton holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Fighter tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Fighter controlling the pace for now.
Fighter throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Fighter controlling from mount.
Hampton tries to hold on but Fighter postures up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hampton is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Fighter is staying active.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Test Fighter dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Hampton drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Fighter is adopting a defensive guard.
Fighter looking for a sweep. Not yet Fighter, not yet.
Hampton throwing strikes from guard but Fighter blocks nicely.
Hampton must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fighter wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fighter wants to hit a sweep here but Hampton passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Fighter there!
Fighter is looking to get to half guard.
Fighter wants to control but Hampton is having none of it.
Fighter reaches up and holds on to Hampton to control the position.
Fighter manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Fighter tries to get to full guard but Hampton has control of the leg.
Fighter is pressing down on Hampton's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fighter keeping moving, preventing Hampton from controlling successfully.
Test Fighter overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Fighter wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Fighter is looking to stand up but Hampton isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Fighter fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Hampton is out of range.

Fighter darts in and clinches Hampton up against the cage.

Fighter breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Fighter tries to clinch but Hampton is having none of it.
Hampton shoots in but no luck this time.

Hampton gets tackled into the cage by Fighter. Fighter maintains the clinch.
Hampton is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Fighter to keep the fight standing.

Fighter with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Fighter successfully pulls guard.
Hampton has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad The Island. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Fighter striking off his back but it's not causing Hampton any problems.

Fighter wants to stand and escape but Hampton is having none of it.

Test Fighter dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hampton tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Fighter breaks the clinch.
Fighter shoots for a takedown but Hampton saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hampton looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Hampton slips a jab and a cross from Fighter.
Fighter dives in and grabs Hampton's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hampton pushes down on Fighter's head and hops out.
Fighter tries to clinch but Hampton moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Test Fighter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hampton feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Fighter wants to sweep here but Hampton controlling him for the moment.

Fighter utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Fighter has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Fighter tries to clinch up but Hampton circles away and keeps his distance.

Fighter gets caught napping as Hampton dives in and scores a takedown. Fighter manages to retain guard.

Fighter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hampton is one step ahead there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Fighter managing to control the position.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Hampton drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Fighter dives on top into guard.


Hampton isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Fighter stacks Hampton on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Fighter!
Fighter creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hampton sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fighter is staying tight to Hampton's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Fighter has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Fighter scores with a couple of short elbows.
Hampton avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Fighter.
Hampton can't do much from the bottom here.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Test Fighter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fighter has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
