Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between ryan rippa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renggi Kentani (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, ryan rippa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Renggi Kentani!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

rippa closes the distance and clinches.

rippa jumps guard.
Kentani controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
rippa wants to get back to his feet but Kentani passes into half guard.
rippa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kentani is working away from the top position though.
Kentani is keen to just control but rippa is a slippery customer.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kentani decides to stand and escape the position.
rippa shoots in looking for a takedown. Kentani tries to sprawl out of it but rippa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kentani manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and rippa counters with a left and a right that stings Kentani.
Kentani fails with the takedown

and rippa counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Kentani!
Kentani has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
Kentani wants to control his opponent's hands but rippa gets his hands free.
Kentani is keeping busy.
Kentani tries to escape the position.

rippa connects with a big shot to the side of Kentani's head.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - rippa's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
rippa somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.
Kentani is in bad spot here.
rippa struggling to keep hold of the position.
rippa lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
rippa looking to hold on to the position here but Kentani rolls and ends up regaining guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sloppy strikes there by rippa.
rippa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kentani keeps working.
Kentani is trying to control rippa's posture but rippa avoids it.
rippa prevents Kentani from escaping the position.
Kentani looks gassed!
rippa taking a break here but Kentani is having none of it and regains half guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kentani clinches but rippa breaks the clinch

and rippa counters with a single leg into guard. Kentani didn't expect that.
Kentani keeping moving, preventing rippa from controlling successfully.
rippa wanted to stand there but Kentani had control of the position.
rippa looking to pass the guard.

rippa drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kentani manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now rippa has Kentani in his guard.
Kentani trying to control but rippa is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kentani forces his way into half guard.
Kentani trying to control the pace.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kentani seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
rippa wants to control but Kentani is keeping busy and won't allow it.
rippa is trying to stand back up but Kentani is controlling him

Kentani lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
rippa tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

rippa wants to control but Kentani is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kentani looks to throw a body kick

and rippa counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by rippa.
rippa wants to control from the top but Kentani keeps moving.
Kentani utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Kentani trying to keep a closed guard but rippa is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
rippa tries to free his leg and advance position but Kentani is retaining full guard.
Kentani keeping moving, preventing rippa from controlling successfully.
ryan rippa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kentani keeping full guard, as rippa tries to pass.
Kentani tries to land a sweep but no joy.
rippa looking to sit in guard and control but Kentani gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kentani stands and steps away. rippa gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

and Kentani counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
rippa is trying to control but can't.
Kentani controlling the action here.
Kentani passes into side control, despite rippa's attempt to control the position.
You can see the frustration on rippa's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
rippa wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

That's one minute gone in the round.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Kentani tries to move into full mount but can't pass rippa's legs.
rippa is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kentani's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
rippa trying to control but Kentani postures up.
Kentani trying to control the action but rippa is working from the bottom.
Kentani trying to mount his opponent but rippa defends it.
Kentani perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kentani tries to pass the half guard into mount. rippa knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
rippa is in trouble now - Kentani has advanced to mount!
rippa tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kentani can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as rippa is looking to escape.
rippa is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
rippa is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Kentani has taken his back!
rippa trying to control the position but Kentani manages to sink in the hooks.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kentani doesn't have the hooks in and rippa manages to turn into his guard.
Renggi Kentani has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
ryan rippa is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
rippa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Renggi Kentani comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well rippa has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
