PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Test Fighter (ranked 2856 p4p, 4614 weight class) and James Franklin (ranked 371 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Test Fighter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, James Franklin!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, David Hoff and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Franklin shoots in and bounces Fighter off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Fighter lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Fighter stays in close to Franklin's body and controls the position.
Fighter is looking to stand up but Franklin won't let him.
Fighter wants to control from the top but Franklin keeps moving.
Franklin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Franklin keeping moving, preventing Fighter from controlling successfully.
Fighter controlling from the top position.
Franklin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fighter is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Fighter would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Franklin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Fighter pulls Franklin in close to prevent any damage.
Fighter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Franklin postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter wants to sweep but no luck.
Franklin trying to control the position from guard on top but Fighter is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fighter has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Franklin trying to control but Fighter is working from the bottom.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Franklin drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Fighter dives on top into guard.

Franklin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Fighter controls the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Fighter is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Fighter working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter trying to control but Franklin is working from the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Test Fighter dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Fighter looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Fighter seems to be looking for submissions.
Test Fighter overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Franklin is refusing to be controlled, as Fighter sits in half guard.
Fighter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Franklin.

Franklin with the active half guard here but Fighter passes nicely into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter tries to stand but Franklin is controlling his head.
Fighter trying to control the action but Franklin is working from the bottom.
Franklin dodges the ground and pound from Fighter.
Fighter is looking to take a break and control but Franklin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The ground and pound from Fighter seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Fighter working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Fighter tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
You can see the frustration on Franklin's face as Fighter controls the position.
Fighter looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Franklin is avoiding damage well.
Fighter working the ground and pound but Franklin is defending the strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Franklin avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Fighter.

Fighter wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Franklin, who protects the arm well.
Franklin tries to buck Fighter off but Fighter is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Franklin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Fighter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Franklin sprawls well initially but Fighter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Fighter controlling the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Franklin is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fighter pulls his head out easily.
Franklin is breathing heavily.

Fighter in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Franklin tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Test Fighter!
Test Fighter got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
