Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Martins Verdins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Make Makkonen!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Verdins doesn't manage to clinch there - Makkonen circles away.
Makkonen changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Verdins tries to clinch but Makkonen moves out of range.
Makkonen drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Verdins defends it well.
Verdins could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Verdins tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Makkonen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Makkonen feints the counter takedown.
Makkonen defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Verdins.
And Makkonen tries to counter it with a takedown but Verdins pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Verdins throws a leg kick
and Makkonen counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Verdins darts in looking for a takedown but Makkonen gets double underhooks and turns Verdins into the cage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Verdins breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Makkonen counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Makkonen lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Verdins is rocked!

Makkonen postures up, still in guard. A huge hammer fist lands that bounces Verdins's head off the mat! Verdins is out! He's out! Makkonen jumps to his feet and celebrates with his corner!
