PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tu Barrels (ranked 903 p4p, 830 weight class) and Andy Viking (ranked 141 p4p, 131 weight class). Barrels comes into the arena with Lock stock and blaring out of the sound system. Andy Viking will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Tu Barrels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andy Viking!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Viking connects with a solid leg kick.
Viking lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Barrels at a distance.
Viking wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Viking swings for the body but Barrels moves out of range.
Viking takes one on the chin but seems OK.

It looks like Andy Viking has been cut.
Barrels lands a jab.
Barrels takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Viking with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Viking misses with a body shot.
Barrels checks the leg kick nicely there.
Barrels appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Viking defending well as Barrels loads up on a big left hand.
Barrels with a nice calf kick.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Barrels looks to land a left hand but Viking moved out of range nicely.
Viking uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Barrels.
Barrels misses with a kick to the body
and Viking counters with a straight right hand.
Viking slips a jab from Barrels.
The fight stays on the outside here - Viking looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Barrels has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Viking finds it's way round the side to connect with Barrels's head.

Viking avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Barrels throws a leg kick but Viking checks it.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Viking lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Barrels has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Barrels and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Tu Barrels seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Barrels throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Viking counters with a lovely straight right hand!

It looks like Tu Barrels has been cut.
Barrels throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Barrels loads up on a big right hand but Viking slips the punch.

Barrels closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Viking's guard.
Viking is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Barrels is controlling him.
Viking can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Barrels controls the pace.
Viking keeping moving, preventing Barrels from controlling successfully.
Viking wants to stand and escape but Barrels is having none of it.
Viking is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Viking is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Viking avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Barrels working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Viking's head.
Barrels trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Barrels won't allow Viking to get back to his feet.
Viking keeping moving, preventing Barrels from controlling successfully.

Viking scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Viking moves out of range of the strikes.
Barrels lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Barrels keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Barrels checks a leg kick.
Viking throws a lazy right hand but Barrels sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Barrels connects with a single shot there.
Viking is looking to chop away at Barrels's legs.

Viking steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Barrels.
Barrels misses with a left hand
enabling Viking to counter with a crisp jab.
Barrels jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A lazy left from Viking finds it's target.
Viking tries to land a leg kick but Barrels saw it coming and moves away.
Barrels misses with a low kick.
Viking displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Barrels.
Barrels misses with a left hand
and Viking counters with a stiff right hand.
Viking lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Barrels goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Barrels moves away from the strike by Viking.
Viking feints and then cracks Barrels's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Barrels down.

Barrels scores with a takedown into Viking's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Barrels postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Barrels won't allow Viking to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Barrels lands a couple of elbows.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Barrels accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Viking is looking to stand up but Barrels isn't so interested in that idea.
Barrels looking to pass the guard.
Viking is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Barrels is controlling him.
Barrels tries to free his leg and advance position but Viking is retaining full guard.
Barrels passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Viking is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Barrels working the ground and pound from side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Andy Viking will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Barrels walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Viking throws a low kick, looking for Barrels's leg but Barrels calmly moves out of range.
Barrels looks to land a right hand but Viking moved out of range.
Viking appeared to try and counter that last move with a leg kick.
Barrels throws a sloppy head kick
letting Viking counter with a right hand.
Nice jab there from Barrels.
Viking throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Barrels on the side of the head.
Barrels looks to throw the jab but Viking is out of range.
Barrels misses with a left hand
and Viking counters with an outside leg kick.
Barrels chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Viking darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Viking, as that shot connected.

Barrels is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Viking chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Barrels can pounce on him.
Oh Barrels is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Viking digs a good hook to Barrels's body.
Barrels shoots in looking for a takedown but Viking manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Barrels's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

and Viking counters with a left to the body.
Barrels seems to have got his legs back now.

Viking lands a big uppercut and Barrels crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Barrels looks OK. Viking waves Barrels back to his feet!

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tu Barrels. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Viking has managed to clinch.
Viking has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Viking lands a big knee! That's hurt Barrels! Oh, he's all over the place! Viking lands another knee that sends Barrels to the floor and the referee steps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andy Viking!
Post fight, Andy Viking stared into the camera and said 'It's not whether you win or lose, it's how many people remember you when you die '.
