The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A left and a right from Brix both land. Nice combination.

It looks like John Swanson has been cut.
Swanson looks to land a left hand but Brix moved out of range nicely.

Swanson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Brix's half guard.
Brix tries to kick Swanson off but Swanson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Swanson is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brix doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Swanson.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Brix really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Swanson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brix is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Swanson slips a nice elbow through Brix's hands, connecting with Brix's forehead.

Brix is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Swanson scores with a couple of nice shots.
Brix is trying to stand up here but Swanson is controlling him well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Brix can do anything to dispel that myth.

Brix wants to get back to his feet.
Swanson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Brix with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Swanson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Swanson winds up and cracks Brix with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
