PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rob Cas (ranked 4089 p4p, 4954 weight class) and Lush Rush (ranked 423 p4p, 472 weight class). Rob Cas had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Cas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lush Rush!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rush avoids a kick to the body.
Rush misses with a takedown
enabling Cas to counter with a crisp jab.
Crunch! Cas slams his shin into Rush's torso.
A head kick misses from Cas.
Rush dodges the punch combination from Cas.
Rush shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cas as he jumps to the side.
Rush moves in looking to clinch but Cas pushes him off.
Cas throws a big counter combination but Rush scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Cas pulls out of a head kick attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rush forces Cas back against the cage and clinches.
Cas is looking to break free of the clinch but Rush has double underhooks.
Cas is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Cas wants to get back to striking at distance but Rush won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rush keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Cas's efforts to push away.

Rush manages to pull guard.
Cas has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Rush is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rush wants to stand up but Cas is controlling him.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Cas won't allow Rush to sweep him here.
Cas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rush on the ground.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Rush blocks a head kick by Cas.
Rush tries to clinch up but Cas circles away and keeps his distance.
Cas avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rush shoots in but Cas avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Rob Cas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lush Rush.
Cas keeps Rush at a distance using the push kick.

Cas throws a head kick that misses.
Rob Cas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cas scores with a kick to the midsection.
Rush tries to clinch up.
Rush fails with the takedown
and Cas counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Rush tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Cas defends well and Rush ends up having to push Cas into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Cas lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Cas moves into range and lands a nice body kick.

Rush tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cas swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cas was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Rush is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cas.
Donk. Cas catches Rush right on the button with a cross.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rush blocks a head kick by Cas.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rush.
Rush on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Cas throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Rush clinches up with Cas and pushes him back against the cage.

Rush manages to break the clinch.
Cas scores with a head kick.
Rush fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cas avoids it really well and circles away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Cas dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Rush tries to score a power double leg takedown but Cas sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Rush somewhat.
Cas lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Cas throws a head kick that misses.
Cas connects with a leg kick.
Cas lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Rush backs up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cas throws a sloppy head kick and Rush moves out of range easily.

Rush gets a clinch.
Rush just leaning against Cas, taking a breather.
Cas wants to get back to striking at distance but Rush won't allow it.

Cas is trying to break the clinch but Rush has him pressed against the cage.
Rush content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Rush manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rush looking to control.
Cas is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Rush can do to turn this around?
Cas wants to stand but Rush is controlling his posture from full guard.
Rush looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cas is one step ahead there.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rush looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Rush is trying to control the position but Cas postures up.
Rush striking from the bottom.

Rush working for a triangle but Cas defends it easily.
Rush is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Cas kicks Rush off and gets back to his feet.
Rush dives in for a single leg takedown but Cas sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Rush has his takedown stuffed
and Cas counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Rob Cas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lush Rush.
Rush is breathing heavily.
Cas changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Rush tries to clinch up
and Cas counters with a big head kick but Rush shrugs it off.

Cas thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Rush if he has to take too many more of those.
Cas throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Cas lands with a kick to the ribs.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A nice leg kick lands there from Cas.
Rush throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rush tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cas manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
It looked like Cas wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Rush moves to clinch but Cas breaks away
letting Cas counter with a right hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rush shoots for a double leg takedown but Cas sprawls well. He's pushed Rush's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Rob Cas is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rush fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Cas seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Rush has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Cas.

Cas wants to get back to striking at distance but Rush won't allow it.
Rush throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Cass head.
Rush jumps guard but Cas turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Cas tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rush just stands there and leans against the cage.

Rush tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cas smiles and moves away.
Cas throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Cas connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Rush steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Cas. That one must have hurt.
Cas scores with a head kick. Rush tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Cas scores with a one two! Rush had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Cas throws a series of punches but Rush moves out of range.
Horrible takedown attempt by Rush or perhaps it was just good defense by Cas, which made it look bad.

Rush shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cas defends it nicely.
Rush on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Cas connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Rush momentarily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Cas fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Rush.

Rob Cas is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Cas turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Rush forces Cas back against the cage and clinches.

Rush pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rush throws a head kick that misses.
It looked like Cas wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Rush tries to clinch but Cas moves out of range.
Rush has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Cas.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cas. Rush does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Rush crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Cas - the referee stops the clock and Rush gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Cas. Rush manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
No luck for Rush with that takedown attempt.

Rob Cas is winning the standup battle so far.
Cas lands a head kick. Rush smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rush shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cas defends it nicely.

Rob Cas showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cas, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
