PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Gascoigne (ranked 921 p4p, 1686 weight class) and Derwent Bolt (ranked 30 p4p, 41 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Gascoigne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derwent Bolt!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Jonathan Paton and Anthony Taglia.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Bolt.
Bolt shoots in but Gascoigne avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Gascoigne on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Gascoigne tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bolt paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gascoigne throws a head kick but Bolt moves out of range.
Bolt tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gascoigne was well out of range. Poor timing from Bolt.
Bolt throws a hook but Gascoigne avoids it easily.
Bolt misses with an uppercut.
Gascoigne tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Gascoigne fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bolt manages to avoid it.

Bolt manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gascoigne on his heels. He'll look to pass Gascoigne's guard now, I'm sure.

Bolt is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Gascoigne looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Gascoigne controls Bolt momentarily but Bolt frees himself.

Gascoigne working for a triangle but Bolt defends it easily.
Gascoigne is trying to keep Bolt in close.
Gascoigne is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Bolt slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Gascoigne has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bolt can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Bolt sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gascoigne's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gascoigne is trying to control but can't.
Gascoigne is trying to get back to full guard.
Gascoigne has a hand on Bolt's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Bolt takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Gascoigne stops Bolt from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Gascoigne is squirming around, avoiding Bolt's attempts to control the action.
Bolt tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Gascoigne definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Gascoigne regains half guard.
Bolt trying to mount his opponent but Gascoigne defends it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gascoigne moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Gascoigne trying to keep a closed guard but Bolt is proving a slippery customer.
Gascoigne is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bolt is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gascoigne looking for a sweep. Not yet Gascoigne, not yet.

Gascoigne is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bolt defends well.
Gascoigne controls Bolt momentarily but Bolt frees himself.
Bolt trying to control the position from guard on top but Gascoigne is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Bolt has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Gascoigne to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Bolt is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Gascoigne pulls down on the head and he's put Bolt to sleep! This one is all over!

In his post fight interview, Paul Gascoigne started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
