The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lawson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Magomedsharipov but Magomedsharipov pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Magomedsharipov throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Lawson shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Magomedsharipov sprawls well. Magomedsharipov wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lawson gets slowly back to his feet.
As Lawson looks to move away, Magomedsharipov throws a big counter combo but Lawson just gets out of the way.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Lawson.
Islam Magomedsharipov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Lawson.
Lawson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Magomedsharipov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lawson somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lawson's coach down at Blacksmith MMA Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Lawson's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Magomedsharipov throws a series of punches but Lawson avoids them all with ease.
Lawson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Magomedsharipov defends well and Lawson ends up having to push Magomedsharipov into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Lawson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Magomedsharipov pinned against the cage. Magomedsharipov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Magomedsharipov misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Magomedsharipov throws a leg kick but Lawson sees it coming and moves out of range.

Lawson darts in and clinches Magomedsharipov up against the cage.
Magomedsharipov tries to break the clinch but Lawson is controlling the position.

Lawson tightens his grip and picks Magomedsharipov up, before dumping him to the ground. Magomedsharipov manages to land in guard.

Lawson slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Lawson lands a couple of digs.
Lawson stops Magomedsharipov from standing up.
Lawson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Lawson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Lawson is working to tighten his grip on Magomedsharipov's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Magomedsharipov has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Lawson is really squeezing tight and eventually Magomedsharipov passes out! Lawson breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
