PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 25368 p4p, 6118 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Mibangon looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Buut!
Mibangon just content to control the position.
Mibangon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Buut keeps working.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut is looking to regain half guard here but Mibangon keeps moving and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on Buut's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mibangon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Buut keeps working.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Buut tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mibangon swivels and escapes.
It appears Mibangon was looking to counter with a kick there.
Mibangon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Buut sprawls well. Buut wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mibangon gets slowly back to his feet.
Buut steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mibangon keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Buut.

Mibangon dodges the ground and pound from Buut.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Buut controlling the position from side mount.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Buut's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Mibangon holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mibangon keeps Buut under control for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Minatay Mibangon will probably get the nod.
That's time! Mibangon's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Mibangon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Despite the aggression on Buut's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Buut drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Mibangon being controlled for a moment.
Mibangon is trying to control Buut's posture but Buut avoids it.

Buut controls the position.
Buut looking to control but instead Mibangon has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Buut slows the pace down in half guard.
Mibangon is looking to control Buut's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mibangon avoid being mounted?

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Buut with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Buut changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mibangon tries to avoid it but Buut manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mibangon to the ground. Mibangon escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
It looked like Mibangon was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Buut.

Buut wants to control but Mibangon postures up.
Mibangon sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Buut is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
You can see the frustration on Buut's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Buut tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mibangon wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mibangon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Buut but Buut pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Buut thinks about the counter body kick.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
No luck for Mibangon with that takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Walay Buut will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Buut closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mibangon circles away.

Mibangon clinches up with Buut and pushes him back against the cage.
Mibangon can't get the takedown.
Mibangon drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Buut gets the underhooks and prevents it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon stops a takedown attempt from Buut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buut is pressed up against the cage. Mibangon has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Buut down to the mat. Buut avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Buut stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Buut wants it to stay on the feet.
Buut tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mibangon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Buut somewhat.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Buut shoots in for a takedown but Mibangon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Mibangon attempts a counter takedown but Buut avoids it well and moves away.
Mibangon shoots in looking for a takedown. Buut tries to sprawl out of it but Mibangon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Buut manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Buut steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buut fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Mibangon throws a quick counter head kick but Buut was just out of range.
Mibangon shoots in for a double leg but Buut sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Buut darts in looking for a takedown but Mibangon gets double underhooks and turns Buut into the cage.
Mibangon quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mibangon is defended easily by Buut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mibangon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mibangon leaves Buut with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Mibangon jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

And that's the end of the fight!
Minatay Mibangon showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mibangon has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
