Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lou Gotch (ranked 1579 p4p, 1618 weight class) and Jake Askren (ranked 83 p4p, 87 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Lou Gotch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 1, fighting out of London, Jake Askren!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Richard Clark and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gotch shoots in and gets a takedown into Askren's guard.
Gotch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Askren swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Askren keeping moving, preventing Gotch from controlling successfully.
Gotch pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Askren is keeping the position for now.

Gotch is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Askren is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Askren has escaped and now he's on top!

Askren tries to free his leg and advance position but Gotch is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gotch is on top in guard.

Askren has his hands on Gotch's head, controlling the position.

Askren keeping full guard, as Gotch tries to pass.
Gotch wants to control from the top but Askren keeps moving.
Gotch stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Askren swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gotch trying to control the position from guard on top but Askren is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gotch is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Askren is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Gotch drops back, looking for a kneebar! Askren looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Askren looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Askren!

Gotch takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Gotch takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Gotch manages to work his way to half guard, despite Askren's best efforts.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Askren working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Gotch moves into full guard.
Gotch is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Askren cracks Gotch with a solid left hand.

Askren is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Askren is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Askren passes to full mount!

Askren is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Gotch reverses the position - he's now on top in Askren's guard.

Gotch has gone for a leg lock! Askren slips out almost immediately though and dives into Gotch's guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Gotch's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Askren throws an overhand right that lands on Gotch's shoulder, as Gotch tries to avoid the shot.

and Gotch counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gotch.
Gotch wants to control from the top but Askren keeps moving.
Gotch advances to half guard.

Askren is defending against the submission attempts here by Gotch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gotch wants to work for an arm triangle but Askren is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
We've been hearing good reports from Gotch's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Gotch stalling away here and it's allowed Askren to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Gotch slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gotch is looking to advance position but Askren has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Gotch is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Askren pulls his head out easily.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Askren connects with a nice short shot to Gotch's temple.

Gotch is in trouble now - Askren has advanced to mount!

Gotch keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Gotch tries to lock up and control but Askren gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Askren is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Gotch is in all sorts of trouble here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Askren cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Gotch is trying desperately to improve position.
Askren looking to finish Gotch with some ground and pound. This is bad for Gotch!

Gotch is rocked!
Gotch really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The referee warns Gotch that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Oh Gotch is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gotch is bucking up trying to escape but Askren cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Gotch wants to hold on but Askren pushes him away.
Gotch tries to reverse the position but Askren maintains control.
Askren breaks from Gotch's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Askren raining down hammerfists from mount.
Gotch is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Askren lands with some strikes.
Gotch sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Gotch manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Askren wants to pass the guard but Gotch is keeping the position.

Askren got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gotch has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Askren has managed to get both his arms back between Gotch's legs - danger averted.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jake Askren showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Gotch jumps guard but Askren turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Gotch is trying to pull guard but Askren has him pressed against the cage.
Askren lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Gotch tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Askren just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lou Gotch. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Askren makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Askren tries to throw a body punch but Gotch avoids it by throwing Askren back against the cage.

Askren lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
Askren lands a shoulder strike.

Gotch tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Askren smiles and moves away.
Nice straight punches there by Askren. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Askren.

Still in the clinch, Askren scores with a nice short uppercut.
Askren lands with a right to the head.
Gotch jumps guard but Askren stands there with Gotch around his waist. Gotch gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Gotch fails to pull guard.
Askren lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Askren lands with a short shot to the head.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Askren throws a right hand that Gotch ducks under and follows up with a left that Gotch also avoids with ease.

Askren closes the distance and clinches.

Gotch is trying to pull guard but Askren turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Gotch jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Askren walks away with a smile on his face. Gotch gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Lou Gotch is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Askren getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Askren takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Jake Askren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Askren gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gotch fails to pull guard.
Gotch tries to pull guard but Askren forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Askren lands with a short shot to the head.
Askren lands a hook that snaps the head of Gotch backwards.

Gotch ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gotch no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Askren is pushing down on Gotch's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gotch is fighting to maintain full guard but Askren has managed to sneak the leg through.

A very excited looking Jake Askren made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
