Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rogerio Quintan (ranked 6206 p4p, 6095 weight class) and Todd Bates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rogerio Quintan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rogerio Quintan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Todd Bates!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Ben Watson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bates fails with a takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bates.
A little feinted left hand from Quintan on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Bates fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Quintan avoids it really well and circles away.
Quintan is looking to counter punch.
Rogerio Quintan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Todd Bates.

Bates closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bates tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Bates throws a strike aimed at the side of Quintan's head but Quintan avoids it well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bates remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Bates is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Quintan is trying to escape and Bates transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Quintan is forced to tap! Nice work there by Bates! Very nice indeed!
