Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George Starling (ranked 5385 p4p, 4278 weight class) and Dan Hermanki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). George Starling has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, George Starling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dan Hermanki!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Starling displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hermanki.
Starling avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Starling fails to land the takedown.
Hermanki shoots in for a double leg but Starling sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Hermanki drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Hermanki tries to clinch up but Starling circles away and keeps his distance.
Hermanki keeps Starling at a distance using the push kick.
Hermanki throws a head kick but Starling moves out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Starling darts in and clinches Hermanki up against the cage.
Hermanki is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Starling to keep the fight standing.
George Starling has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Hermanki.

Starling lands a hook that snaps the head of Hermanki backwards.
Hermanki is trying to push Starling away but Starling has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Hermanki tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Starling smiles and moves away.
Starling has a takedown stuffed.
Starling is looking to land body kicks.
Hermanki wants to clinch.

Starling gets a double leg takedown into Hermanki's guard.

Starling got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hermanki has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Starling has managed to get both his arms back between Hermanki's legs - danger averted.

Hermanki wriggles free and stands up.

Starling has Hermanki pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hermanki manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Starling lands a nice elbow.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hermanki with a flurry of punches that miss.
Hermanki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Starling swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hermanki engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Starling wants to stand and escape but Hermanki is having none of it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hermanki controlling from the top position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Starling on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Starling tries to get out of the position.

Starling working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hermanki doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hermanki manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Hermanki needs to keep his hands up - Starling had a free shot at his head there.
Hermanki stuffs the takedown.
Hermanki defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Starling.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Starling fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Starling is looking to clinch but Hermanki is avoiding it.

Hermanki gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Starling to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Hermanki has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Starling off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Starling shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hermanki pinned against the cage. Hermanki gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hermanki is defended easily by Starling.
Hermanki looks to land a body kick but Starling moved away.
A left and a right from Starling both land. Nice combination.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hermanki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hermanki is breathing heavily.
Hermanki tries for a takedown but Starling sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Starling attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.

Hermanki tries to keep at a distance but Starling has taken the fight into the clinch.

Starling has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hermanki is trying to keep an underhook but Starling manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Hermanki moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Hermanki can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Starling controls the pace.

Hermanki controls Starling momentarily but Starling frees himself.
Starling has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hermanki is proving hard to escape from.
Hermanki keeping moving, preventing Starling from controlling successfully.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Starling is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Hermanki is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Starling looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Hermanki kicks Starling off and gets back to his feet.
George Starling is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Starling throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hermanki.
Hermanki wants to clinch up but Starling keeps it at a distance.

Starling pushes Hermanki up against the cage in a clinch.
Hermanki works on Starling's body with a couple of short punches.

Starling pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Starling gets the takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hermanki can't do much from the bottom here.

Hermanki manages to get back to half guard.
Starling tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hermanki knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Starling stalling away here and it's allowed Hermanki to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hermanki had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Starling defends it easily.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Hermanki keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Starling closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hermanki wants to control but Starling postures up.
Hermanki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Starling stands up.
Starling shoots in and drives through. Hermanki sprawls well.
As Starling backs off Hermanki throws a huge counter combo but Starling manages to avoid it all.
Starling misses with a hook. Hermanki ducked under it nicely.
Hermanki raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Starling pushes Hermanki up against the cage in a clinch.
Hermanki is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Starling gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Hermanki is trying to break the clinch but Starling has him pressed against the cage.

Starling breaks from the clinch.
Starling pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Hermanki back to the cage. Starling follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Starling throws a sloppy head kick and Hermanki moves out of range easily.
Hermanki doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Starling uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hermanki.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Starling is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Starling wants to pass the guard but Hermanki is keeping the position.
Hermanki controls Starling momentarily but Starling frees himself.

And that's the end of the fight!
George Starling showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Starling, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
