The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burgandy finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Cartwright misses with a takedown attempt - Burgandy sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Burgandy throws a body punch but Cartwright moves out of range.

Burgandy has Cartwright up against the cage in a clinch.
Come on Burgandy - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Burgandy fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Cartwright drops down looking for an ankle pick but Burgandy pulls his leg out and moves away.
Burgandy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Cartwright moves out of range of the body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Burgandy connects with an inside leg kick.
A bone on bone clash there as Cartwright blocks the leg kick.
Cartwright dodges the punch combination from Burgandy.
Cartwright drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Burgandy defends it well.
Burgandy throws a head kick but Cartwright moves out of range.
Burgandy tries to close the distance and clinch but Cartwright swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Cooper Cartwright has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Burgandy throws a series of punches but Cartwright moves out of range.
Burgandy ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Burgandy appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
No joy there for Burgandy, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Burgandy throws a lazy uppercut

so Cartwright counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Burgandy looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Cartwright passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Cartwright looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Burgandy on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Burgandy tries to get out of the position.
Cartwright advances to full mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burgandy tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Cartwright postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Burgandy looks a forlorn figure.

It looks like John Burgandy has been cut.
Cartwright has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
