Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Jones (ranked 4441 p4p, 4369 weight class) and Matto Hyrra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Michael Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Matto Hyrra!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Daniel Blasius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones wants to clinch but Hyrra slips to the side

and Hyrra counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that.
Hyrra tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Jones is letting Hyrra control him for a moment.
Jones throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.

Hyrra tries for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
Jones taking a bit of punishment here - Hyrra scoring with strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones is trying to escape the position but Hyrra is controlling the position.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hyrra in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.

Hyrra tries for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
Hyrra really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hyrra wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.
Jones is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Hyrra asserts his dominance and retains side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hyrra lands a few punches from side control.
Hyrra cracks Jones with a big elbow.
Hyrra is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Jones will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Jones on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Hyrra.
Hyrra lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Hyrra moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Hyrra tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Hyrra has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Hyrra throws an elbow but Jones slips to the side and avoids it well.

Jones is not content to let Hyrra control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Hyrra closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jones's guard.
Hyrra postures up and lands a big shot to Jones's brow.

Jones lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jones drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jones jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jones thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hyrra can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hyrra is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jones defends well.

Hyrra avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Jones wants to control from the top but Hyrra keeps moving.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hyrra looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Jones darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Jones wants to take a breather but Hyrra is having none of it.

Jones is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hyrra doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jones.

Hyrra is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jones pulls his head out easily.
Jones is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Hyrra desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Hyrra has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though.

Jones is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hyrra is looking to improve his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jones moves nicely into side control.
Hyrra tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jones wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A left and a right from Jones both land. Nice combination.

and Hyrra counters with a single leg into guard. Jones didn't expect that.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hyrra defends it easily.
Hyrra works over Jones with some ground and pound from guard.

Hyrra must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hyrra defends it easily.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hyrra gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hyrra pushes down on Jones's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Hyrra looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The fighters are battling for position here. Jones manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Hyrra slips nicely into half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jones is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nice strikes from Hyrra there.

Hyrra seems to be working for a kimura but Jones defends the submission attempt.
Hyrra takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hyrra tries to pass the half guard into mount. Jones knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Matto Hyrra comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Hyrra has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
