PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Garces (ranked 4376 p4p, 3962 weight class) and Anderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 491 weight class). Anderson Silva has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Miguel Garces!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva shoots in looking for a takedown. Garces tries to sprawl out of it but Silva keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Garces manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Silva looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

and Garces counters with a single leg into guard. Silva didn't expect that.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Garces gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Garces makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Garces is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Garces cracks Silva with a solid left hand.
Garces has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Garces lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Garces's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Garces trying to control but Silva is working from the bottom.
Garces wants to pass the guard but Silva is keeping the position.

Garces drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Garces jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Garces wants to stand but Silva has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Garces lands a couple of digs.
Garces connects with a couple of short punches.
Garces wants to pass the guard but Silva is keeping the position.
Silva can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Garces controls the pace.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Garces wants to stand but Silva is controlling his posture from full guard.
Garces missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Garces is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Silva keeping moving, preventing Garces from controlling successfully.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Garces is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Garces tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Silva tries to counter by closing the distance.

Garces dives in and scores a takedown into Silva's guard.

Garces scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Garces drops back looking for a leg! Silva is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Silva manages to kick Garces off! Garces jumps back into Silva's guard.
Silva wants to control the position but Garces says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Garces is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Garces winds up and cracks Silva with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Garces seems to be looking for submissions.

Garces looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Garces wants to work for an arm triangle but Silva is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Miguel Garces overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Garces lands with some strikes.
Silva is squirming around, avoiding Garces's attempts to control the action.
Silva wants to hold on but Garces pushes him away.

Garces is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Silva has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Silva!
Silva wants to pass the guard but Garces is keeping the position.

Silva is posturing up here but Garces has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Silva tries to roll out but it's too tight and Silva has to tap! Slick submission there by Garces!
