Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Short (ranked 870 p4p, 726 weight class) and Frankie Venegas (ranked 51 p4p, 45 weight class). Short comes to the cage accompanied by Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger. Frankie Venegas acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jerry Short!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Frankie Venegas !
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Sam Margolis and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Venegas is looking to chop away at Short's legs.

Short shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Venegas is trying to defend but Short finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Venegas trying to hold on to Short's head to control him but Short postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Short is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing good reports from Short's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Short drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Short jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Venegas looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Short with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Venegas dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Venegas is trying to drag Short to the mat but Short just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Venegas has picked Short up - he's going for a ride! Venegas dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Short wants to sweep here but Venegas controlling him for the moment.
Venegas is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

My spies in London MMA Club inform me that Venegas has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Venegas keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Short's head.

Short working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Venegas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Venegas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Venegas got a little sloppy there for a moment and Short has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Venegas has managed to get both his arms back between Short's legs - danger averted.

He's locked it up tight! Venegas 's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Short picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!
