PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 24942 p4p, 24760 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Wala Sapi was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Buktot misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Buktot closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sapi to the mat! Sapi manages to get full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot sitting in guard, not really doing much.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buktot wants to control from the top but Sapi keeps moving.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Sapi looking for a sweep. Not yet Sapi, not yet.
Buktot trying to control the position from guard on top but Sapi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sapi being controlled here, momentarily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Sapi drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Buktot wants to control but Sapi postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sapi controls the position.
Buktot can't do much from the bottom here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Buktot is being controlled here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sapi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Buktot tries to avoid it but Sapi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Buktot to the ground. Buktot escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Buktot tries to counter by clinching up but Sapi breaks away and moves out of range.
Sapi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi shoots in but no luck this time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Sapi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Buktot is looking to counter with a body kick.
Sapi stuffs the takedown attempt from Buktot. Buktot gets slowly back to his feet.
Sapi replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Buktot blocks it well.
Sapi goes for a double leg but Buktot avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Buktot continues to drive forward.
A quick step to the side and Buktot tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buktot shoots in looking for a takedown. Sapi tries to sprawl out of it but Buktot keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sapi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sapi looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sapi swings for the body but Buktot moves out of range.
Buktot throws a big counter combination but Sapi scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Buktot fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sapi avoids it really well and circles away.
Sapi was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dawindi Buktot. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Buktot manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sapi on his heels. He'll look to pass Sapi's guard now, I'm sure.

Sapi pulls Buktot in close to his closed guard and prevents Buktot from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sapi is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Buktot working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Buktot shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sapi as he avoids it easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buktot pulls out of a head kick attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dawindi Buktot dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Buktot dives in for a single leg takedown but Sapi sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Buktot is working for takedown but Sapi is calmly controlling the position for now.
Sapi has Buktot pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Buktot manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Buktot prevents the takedown attempt.

Buktot drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sapi pulls his leg out and moves away.

It appears Buktot was looking to counter with a kick there.

Sapi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Buktot's guard.
Buktot is pulling down on Sapi's head to control his posture.
Sapi sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Buktot controls Sapi momentarily but Sapi frees himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sapi controlling from the top position.
Buktot has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Sapi slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buktot has control of Sapi's left arm, preventing Sapi from doing any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

and Sapi counters by moving into the clinch.
Sapi wants a takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sapi is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Buktot is defending well.
Buktot drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sapi changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Buktot fights it off and pushes away nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Sapi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
