PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Rodriguez (ranked 5603 p4p, 3482 weight class) and Caleb DeCoteau (ranked 161 p4p, 96 weight class). Caleb DeCoteau told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nick Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Caleb DeCoteau!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
DeCoteau keeps the fight on the outside.
DeCoteau connects with a body shot that sends Rodriguez's belly button to the back.
DeCoteau shoots in and drives through. Rodriguez sprawls well.
Rodriguez tries to counter by moving into the clinch but DeCoteau manages to circle out of the way.
DeCoteau misses with a looping left.

Rodriguez looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
DeCoteau trying to control but Rodriguez postures up.
Rodriguez throwing shots but DeCoteau is blocking nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rodriguez in particular looking to stall.

DeCoteau is looking to get to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DeCoteau is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Rodriguez sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

DeCoteau tries to hold on but Rodriguez pushes him away.

Rodriguez misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
DeCoteau is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rodriguez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rodriguez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as DeCoteau is looking to escape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

DeCoteau stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rodriguez swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Rodriguez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
DeCoteau is refusing to be controlled, as Rodriguez sits in half guard.
DeCoteau is looking for a sweep. Rodriguez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rodriguez wants to control but DeCoteau is keeping him busy.

DeCoteau is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rodriguez is just riding it out for now. DeCoteau eventually gives up the hold.
Rodriguez makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Rodriguez.

I would just about give that final round to Caleb DeCoteau.
I think Rodriguez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
