PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roberto Heredia (ranked 4484 p4p, 4727 weight class) and Michael Paul (ranked 449 p4p, 475 weight class). Heredia kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Moncho Chavea, Deikirisy Escopeta. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Paul!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Richard Clark and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heredia lands with an uppercut that bounces Paul off the cage and back into range.
Paul takes a jab right on the kisser.
Heredia lands a nice shot that snaps Paul's head back.
Roberto Heredia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Paul takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Paul closes this distance looking for a takedown but Heredia circles away.
Heredia slaps away a takedown attempt from Paul, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Heredia throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Heredia wanted to stand there but Paul had control of the position.

Let's hope that Paul has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Heredia is looking to stand up but Paul won't let him.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Paul is pulling down on Heredia's head. It's preventing any offense from Heredia, at least for the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Heredia is looking to clinch but Paul is avoiding it.
Heredia jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Heredia is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Paul.
Paul steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Heredia.

Paul rushes Heredia and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Heredia tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A bit of stalling here from Paul.
A head punch on the inside from Heredia fails to land.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Paul takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Paul has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Heredia is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Paul tries to score a power double leg takedown but Heredia sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Paul somewhat.
Paul closes the distance and clinches up with Heredia, looking for a takedown. Paul pushes Heredia against the cage but Heredia circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Heredia looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Paul slips under a jab from Heredia.
Heredia throws a hook to the side of Paul's head but Paul sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Paul drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Heredia defends it well.

It seemed like Paul was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Heredia is looking to stand back up but Paul counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Heredia.

Paul looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Paul is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Paul throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Heredia tries to kick Paul off in order to stand up. Paul Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Heredia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Paul on the ground.
Heredia tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Heredia's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Paul throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Heredia because Paul loaded up on that one.

Heredia might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Paul takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Heredia tries to buck Paul off but Paul takes his back!

Michael Paul comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Heredia has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
