PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Skaar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Balboa comes to the cage accompanied by mama said knock you out. Skaar has chosen We will rock you as his entrance music. The key to victory for Frankie Balboa has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Frankie Balboa!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Skaar!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skaar moves in looking to clinch but Balboa pushes him off.
Skaar is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Balboa.

Skaar clinches up with Balboa and pushes him back against the cage.
Balboa wants to break free but Skaar has control.
Skaar goes for a takedown in the clinch but Balboa prevents it.
Skaar wants to stall.
Balboa can't break the clinch.
Balboa can't break the clinch.
Balboa wants to break free but Skaar has control.
Skaar keeps control of Balboa as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Balboa wants to get back to striking at distance but Skaar won't allow it.
Balboa has had enough of the clinch but Skaar keeps him there for the moment.
Balboa wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Skaar has him pressed against the cage.
Balboa tries to break the clinch but Skaar is controlling the position.

Balboa manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Balboa stuffs the takedown.

Skaar bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Skaar throwing shots but missing, from side control.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

Skaar's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Balboa defending against the ground and pound.
Skaar working the strikes but Balboa uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Balboa has his hands clasped together around Skaar's back. He's all about the action.
Skaar takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Skaar thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Balboa's head.
Balboa is looking to control Skaar's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Balboa avoid being mounted?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Balboa is looking to improve his position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Skaar wants to advance to full mount but Balboa doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Skaar throwing strikes from guard but Balboa blocks nicely.
Skaar throws and elbow that misses. Balboa uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Skaar's guard. Nice move by Balboa!
Skaar has Balboa pulled in close to control his posture.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Skaar can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Balboa loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Skaar wants to sweep but no luck.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Balboa doesn't manage to clinch there - Skaar circles away.
Balboa swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and Balboa counters with a nice low kick that buckles Skaar's knee momentarily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Skaar gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Balboa fails with a takedown attempt.
Balboa connects with a good right hand that stumbles Skaar. Skaar circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frankie Balboa will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Skaar feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Skaar is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Skaar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Balboa swings for the body but Skaar moves out of range.

Skaar is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Balboa manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Balboa scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Skaar looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Skaar working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Skaar is looking to pass Balboa's guard but actually Balboa recovers to full guard.

Peter Skaar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Balboa will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Skaar tries to clinch but Balboa is having none of it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Balboa wants to control but Skaar is having none of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Peter Skaar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Skaar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
