Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Esponosa (ranked 5480 p4p, 4419 weight class) and Devon Black (ranked 509 p4p, 468 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricardo Esponosa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Devon Black!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Black misses with a lunging right hand

and Esponosa counters with a shoot takedown. Black fights it but they end up in guard.

Black has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Esponosa can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Black is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Esponosa defends well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Esponosa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Black, who protects the arm well.

Esponosa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Esponosa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Black is looking for a sweep. Esponosa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Black wants to control but Esponosa is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Esponosa seems to be working for a kimura but Black defends the submission attempt.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Esponosa seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Esponosa is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Esponosa is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Black!
Black is looking to improve his position but Esponosa isn't that keen on the idea.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Esponosa seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Black is holding on tight.
Esponosa avoids the attempt from Black to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Black is trying to reverse the position but instead Esponosa has taken his back - oops!
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Esponosa's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Esponosa has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Black has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Esponosa controls Black momentarily but Black frees himself.

Esponosa throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And Black tries to counter it with a takedown but Esponosa pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Esponosa has closed the distance and engaged Black in a clinch.
Esponosa prevents Black from breaking the clinch.

Esponosa's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Esponosa lands a glancing blow to the side of Black's head.
Black just misses with a punch to the body.
Black misses the shot to the body.
Esponosa connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Black momentarily.

Esponosa pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Black tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Esponosa was well out of range. Poor timing from Black.
Esponosa throws a hook to the side of Black's head but Black sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Black moves forwards but Esponosa connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Black has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Esponosa is working away from the top position though.

Ricardo Esponosa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Esponosa throws some wild stikes that Black manages to avoid easily.
Black stops Esponosa from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

In his post fight interview, Ricardo Esponosa started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
