Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jayson Howard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Islam Rafiq!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rafiq feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rafiq is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Howard keeping full guard, as Rafiq tries to pass.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Rafiq closes this distance looking for a takedown but Howard circles away.
Howard tries a head kick but it misses.
Rafiq changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Howard fails with the takedown.
Jayson Howard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rafiq manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Howard on his heels. He'll look to pass Howard's guard now, I'm sure.
Rafiq content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Howard is trying to keep Rafiq in close.

Rafiq not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Howard looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rafiq closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Howard quickly recovers to half guard.
Rafiq lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Rafiq works his foot free and advances to mount.

Rafiq lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Rafiq looking to control and managing it successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rafiq quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Rafiq but it's paid off an Howard is forced to tap! Nice work by Rafiq.
