PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Colbert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Disturbed-Indestructible. The key to victory for John Davis has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice defenses there by Davis.
Davis pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A head kick misses from Colbert.
Colbert fails to land the takedown.
Davis ducks under a wild hook from Colbert.
Colbert rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Davis moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Davis blocks a head kick by Colbert.

Colbert throws the left hand but Davis avoids the punch easily.

It looks like Cain Colbert has been cut.

Davis displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Colbert.

Colbert shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Davis's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Davis throws a right hand that Colbert ducks under and follows up with a left that Colbert also avoids with ease.

Davis connects with a looping right hand.
Cain Colbert seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Colbert doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Davis throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Davis is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Davis scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Colbert doesn't seem bothered though.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Davis stalks Colbert and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Colbert's face. Colbert staggers backwards, shaken.
Davis connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Davis fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Colbert takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Colbert takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Davis's corner calls for a 1-2. Davis obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Davis cracks Colbert with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Davis scores with a punch to the head.
Davis misses with a few strikes there.
Davis shoots in for a takedown but Colbert shows good takedown defense.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Colbert is defended easily by Davis.
Davis takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Davis dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

and Davis counters with a left and a right that stings Colbert.
Davis lands a nice shot to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Davis throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Colbert tumbling to the canvas!


Colbert is rocked!

Colbert throws his legs up looking for a submission but Davis uses it to pass to side control.

Davis stands up and beckons Colbert to his feet.
John Davis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Davis darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Colbert takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Davis throws a front kick aimed at Colbert's knee but Colbert avoids it well.
Nice straight punches there by Colbert. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Colbert.

Davis uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Colbert has time to react.
Davis is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Colbert can do to turn this around?

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Colbert thows a left - swing and a miss!
Colbert takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Colbert throws a left and a right that both miss
and Davis counters with a nice uppercut.
Davis tries to bum rush Colbert with a series of wild strikes but Colbert uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Colbert might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Davis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Davis clobbers Colbert with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Davis throws a hook to the side of Colbert's head but Colbert sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

The crowd cheers as Davis lands an impressive looking overhand right. Colbert doesn't seem phased though.

Davis steps into range and cracks Colbert with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Colbert flops backwards and Davis dives into his guard looking to finish!

Davis is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Colbert is landing with some decent strikes but Davis is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Davis is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Colbert has control of Davis's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Davis regains control of the situation pretty easily.

John Davis showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Davis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
