Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Potthast (ranked 3115 p4p, 2114 weight class) and Yoshi Takano (ranked 84 p4p, 53 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Charlie Potthast!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 28 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Yoshi Takano!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Potthast takes a kick to the side of the head.
Takano throws a head kick that Potthast semi-blocks.
Takano lands a really nice looking cross but Potthast seems unphased.
A bone on bone clash there as Potthast blocks the leg kick.
Potthast was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Takano has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Potthast keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Potthast fails to land the takedown.
Potthast takes a swing at Takano's ribcage but misses.
A low kick lands for Takano.
Takano throws a hook but Potthast blocks it.
Takano misses with a two punch combination.
Potthast has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Yoshi Takano seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Potthast thuds a left hand into Takano's body.

Takano explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Crunch! Takano slams his shin into Potthast's torso.
Potthast throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
A countering left hand to the body from Takano misses.

Takano throws a leg kick but Potthast moved away.
Potthast uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Takano.

A quick step to the side and Potthast tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Potthast on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Takano. Takano obviously looking to wear him down.

Potthast shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Takano manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Potthast working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Takano pulls Potthast in close to his closed guard and prevents Potthast from doing any damage or advancing position.
Potthast has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Takano's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Takano is looking for a triangle but Potthast pushes his legs off easily.
Potthast wants to pass the guard but Takano is keeping the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Takano is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Potthast works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Takano is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Potthast connects with a nice short shot to Takano's temple.
Potthast looks to land a strike but Takano avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Potthast wants to control from the top but Takano keeps moving.
Takano not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That was a close round but I would say that Charlie Potthast will probably get the nod.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Takano lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Potthast at a distance.
Takano fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Potthast manages to avoid it.
Jab, jab by Potthast - just one landing.
Takano goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Takano moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Takano throws a leg kick but Potthast sees it coming and moves out of range.
Potthast fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Takano manages to avoid it.
Takano misses with a wild combination.
Takano throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Potthast stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Potthast throws a body punch but Takano moves out of range.

A low kick from Takano is predictable there
and Potthast counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Takano throws out a leg kick but Potthast moves out of range and Takano only half commits.
Potthast stuns Takano with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Takano tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Potthast was well out of range. Poor timing from Takano.
Takano fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Potthast looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Takano lands with an overhand left.
Potthast is looking to wear down Takano with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Potthast manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Takano on his heels. He'll look to pass Takano's guard now, I'm sure.

Takano escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Potthast gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Potthast in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Charlie Potthast overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Potthast trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Takano has control of Potthast's left arm, preventing Potthast from doing any damage.
Potthast loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Potthast wants to control from the top but Takano keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Potthast is pushing down on Takano's leg trying to pass to half guard. Takano is fighting to maintain full guard but Potthast has managed to sneak the leg through.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Potthast's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Charlie Potthast will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Takano dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Potthast. That did some damage!

A quick step to the side and Potthast tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Potthast dives in and scores a takedown into Takano's guard.

Takano had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Potthast defends it easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Potthast keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Takano's head.
Takano takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Potthast thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Potthast thows a huge punch but Takano dodges it nicely.

Potthast gets to his feet and stands over Takano, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Takano felt that one! Potthast unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Takano from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Charlie Potthast!
