PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Xxx Xxx (ranked 5950 p4p, 23608 weight class) and Xxx Xxx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Xxx Xxx will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 45 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xxx Xxx!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Fighter B closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Fighter A to the mat! Fighter A manages to get full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Fighter A pulls Fighter B in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fighter B loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter B works over Fighter A with some ground and pound from guard.
Fighter B throwing strikes but missing.
Fighter A is controlling Fighter B's posture.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fighter B enables Fighter A to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fighter B manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Fighter A not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fighter A controlling from the top position.
Fighter B utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fighter B is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
No luck for Fighter A with that takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fighter B shoots for a takedown but Fighter A saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
It looked like Fighter A wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Fighter B scores with a takedown into Fighter A's guard.
Fighter B throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fighter A works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Fighter A trying to control the position here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Xxx Xxx will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Fighter B closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Fighter A's guard.
Fighter A has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter B lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Fighter A is pulling down on Fighter B's head to control his posture.
Fighter B throwing strikes from guard but Fighter A blocks nicely.
Fighter A controlling Fighter B's posture.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Fighter A stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Fighter A wants it to stay on the feet.
It appears Fighter A was looking to counter with a kick there.
Fighter B has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Fighter A.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fighter B shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Fighter B misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Fighter A fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Fighter B to the ground. Fighter A is now in Fighter B's guard.
Fighter A controls from within his opponent's guard.
Fighter A has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fighter A postures up in Fighter B's guard and throws a big left but Fighter B blocks it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter A throws a big elbow that misses.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Xxx Xxx dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Fighter A throws the kick towards the body but Fighter B avoids it.
Fighter B thinks about the counter body kick.
Fighter A fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Fighter B is trying to counter with his kicks.
Fighter B shoots for a double leg takedown but Fighter A sprawls well. He's pushed Fighter B's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
And Fighter A counters with a quick kick to the body but Fighter B blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Fighter B or perhaps it was just good defense by Fighter A, which made it look bad.
Fighter A quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fighter A has a takedown stuffed.
Fighter B feints a counter leg kick.
Fighter A misses with a takedown

and Fighter B counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xxx Xxx. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fighter A is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Fighter B's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Fighter B's back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Good control from Fighter A.
Fighter A not allowing Fighter B to control his hands.

Fighter A looking to break Fighter B's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Fighter B remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Fighter A will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Fighter B is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Fighter A is not going to allow Fighter B to sit and survive in this position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
I would not like to be Fighter B right now.
Fighter B tries to escape but Fighter A has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Fighter B trying to control the position but Fighter A manages to sink in the hooks.
Fighter A controls the action.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fighter A gets his hands free as Fighter B looks to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Xxx Xxx showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Fighter A has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
