PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Clifford Val Salvacion (ranked 24054 p4p, 3583 weight class) and Night Lights (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clifford Val Salvacion!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Night Lights!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lights as he avoids it easily.
Salvacion has a takedown stuffed.
A little jabbing left from Lights on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Salvacion darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Lights manages to escape and get back to his feet!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Salvacion closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Lights is looking for a sweep.
Salvacion trying to control the action but Lights is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lights is looking to regain half guard here but Salvacion keeps moving and retains side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Salvacion shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lights is trying to defend but Salvacion finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Lights wants to stand back up but Salvacion manages to pass into side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Night Lights will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Salvacion dives in and grabs Lights's left leg, looking for a takedown. Lights pushes down on Salvacion's head and hops out.
Lights throws out a counter right but Salvacion avoids it with no problem.

and Lights counters with a nice uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Salvacion goes for a double leg but Lights avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Lights continues to drive forward.
Lights only half commits to the counter leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clifford Val Salvacion. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Salvacion goes for a takedown attempt but Lights pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Lights slaps away a takedown attempt from Salvacion, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Salvacion shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lights as he jumps to the side.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Salvacion fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nice takedown defense from Lights. No joy for Salvacion on that attempt.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Lights! But no joy.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Salvacion.

Lights is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Lights struggling a bit here.
Lights is breathing heavily.
Salvacion trying to control the position but Lights is working away.
Salvacion controlling the position.
Lights gets back to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Lights is doing well to control the position and prevent Salvacion from advancing to side control.
Lights's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lights is trying to stand.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Night Lights showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Salvacion shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Lights keeping hold of Salvacion's head, controlling as best he can.
Lights has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Salvacion is working away from the top position though.
Lights takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lights wants to get back to full guard.
Lights holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Lights is looking to improve his position.

Lights controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Clifford Val Salvacion overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lights slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Lights seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Lights wants to sweep but no luck.
Salvacion trying to control the position from guard on top but Lights is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Lights keeping moving, preventing Salvacion from controlling successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

and Lights counters with a thumping low kick.

Salvacion shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Salvacion was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Lights is looking to regain half guard here but Salvacion keeps moving and retains side control.
Lights can't do much from the bottom here.
Salvacion tries to score with some ground and pound. Lights controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Salvacion wants to control but Lights is keeping him busy.

Salvacion throws an elbow but Lights slips to the side and avoids it well.
Lights tries to buck Salvacion off but Salvacion is having none of it.
Lights is holding Salvacion down, trying to stall.
Clifford Val Salvacion has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Salvacion wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lights keeps working.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Clifford Val Salvacion.
I think Lights has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
