PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 24505 p4p, 24441 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yawa Kiang has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
No luck for Buut with that takedown attempt.
It appears Kiang was looking to counter with a kick there.
Kiang doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Buut counters with a nice body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut shoots for a double leg takedown but Kiang sprawls well. He's pushed Buut's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Kiang gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Buut to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Buut throws an elbow that misses. Kiang uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Buut's guard. Nice move by Kiang!

Kiang lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Buut is pulling down on Kiang's head to control his posture.
Kiang content to stall in guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Buut seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Kiang is stalling in the full guard.
Buut pulls Kiang in to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buut not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kiang got a little sloppy there for a moment and Buut has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kiang has managed to get both his arms back between Buut's legs - danger averted.
Kiang sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Buut wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kiang fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Buut thinks about the counter body kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Buut misses with a takedown attempt - Kiang sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
It appears Kiang was looking to counter with a kick there.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walay Buut.
Kiang shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buut shoots in looking for a takedown but Kiang manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Buut's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Walay Buut will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Kiang fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Buut to the ground. Kiang is now in Buut's guard.
Kiang slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang being controlled here momentarily.
Kiang throws a big elbow that misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang is working Buut over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Kiang wants to control from the top but Buut keeps moving.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kiang being controlled here momentarily.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Buut shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kiang holds on and takes a little breather.
Kiang continues to stall.
Buut showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang looking to hit a scissor sweep but Buut is one step ahead there.
Kiang has his hands on Buut's head, controlling the position.
Buut not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Buut being controlled here momentarily.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kiang looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Buut follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buut lands a nice looking body kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Walay Buut will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Buut closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kiang to the mat! Kiang manages to get full guard.
Kiang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Buut controls the pace.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kiang has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Kiang is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buut is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Buut changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kiang looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Buut is staying tight to Kiang's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Kiang can't do much from the bottom here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang tries to buck Buut off but Buut is having none of it.
Buut taking a breather here.
What's Kiang going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Buut controlling the position from side mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Walay Buut is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Buut closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kiang quickly recovers to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Walay Buut comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Buut has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
