Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Huena Ajuricaba (ranked 1556 p4p, 1089 weight class) and Nori Voluspa (ranked 219 p4p, 159 weight class). Nori Voluspa is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Huena Ajuricaba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nori Voluspa!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Voluspa shoots in looking for a takedown. Ajuricaba tries to sprawl out of it but Voluspa keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Ajuricaba manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Voluspa shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ajuricaba manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Voluspa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ajuricaba has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Voluspa has managed to get both his arms back between Ajuricaba's legs - danger averted.
Voluspa wants to control from the top but Ajuricaba keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Voluspa has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ajuricaba's coaches at Brooklyn Mixed Martial Arts have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Voluspa looks up at the clock and then as Ajuricaba takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Voluspa smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The referee asks Voluspa politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Voluspa prefers to stall for the moment though.
Ajuricaba knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Voluspa on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Voluspa wants to control the position but Ajuricaba frees himself and scrambles - Voluspa manages to regain control in side control.

Voluspa is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ajuricaba has escaped the position, nice work there.

Voluspa cracks Ajuricaba with a big right hand but Ajuricaba just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Voluspa remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Voluspa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The ground and pound from Voluspa seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Huena Ajuricaba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nori Voluspa.

Ajuricaba lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Nice takedown defense from Ajuricaba. No joy for Voluspa on that attempt.
