PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Barkeep Quark (ranked 946 p4p, 1132 weight class) and Bimbo Slaissi (ranked 126 p4p, 150 weight class). Quark kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Megadeth - Train of Consequences. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bimbo Slaissi!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Slaissi works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Quark throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Slaissi counters with a left to the body.
Quark tries for a takedown but Slaissi circles away easily
letting Slaissi counter with a right hand.
Quark throws a looping overhand right but Slaissi ducks down to avoid it.
Slaissi looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Quark looks to land a right hand but Slaissi moved out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slaissi throws out a loose jab but Quark uses good head movement to avoid it.
Quark misses with a right hand
and Slaissi counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Quark on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Slaissi throws a nice outside leg kick.
Bimbo Slaissi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Quark drives through and clinches with Slaissi against the cage.

Slaissi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Slaissi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Quark.

Quark on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
A jab from Slaissi finds it's way through Quark's defenses.
Quark shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Slaissi as he avoids it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Slaissi! But no joy.
Slaissi lands a lovely overhand right.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Quark throws a body shot but no joy.
Slaissi darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Quark clinches with his opponent.

Slaissi throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Quarks head.

Slaissi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
No luck for Quark with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Barkeep Quark. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Donk. Quark catches Slaissi right on the button with a cross.
Quark misses with a lunging right hand
and Slaissi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Quark keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Quark throws a hook but Slaissi blocks it.
Slaissi with a nice calf kick.
A left and a right from Quark both land. Nice combination.
A shot to the liver by Slaissi. Beautiful body shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Quark clobbers Slaissi with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bimbo Slaissi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Slaissi fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Quark misses with an uppercut
letting Slaissi counter with a right hand.
Slaissi throws a hook but Quark avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Slaissi cracks Quark with an open hand slap.
Slaissi defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Quark.
Quark definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Slaissi scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Quark throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Slaissi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Slaissi throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Quark moves out of range as Slaissi strikes.
Quark throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A little jabbing left from Slaissi on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Quark will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

A looping hook to the body misses from Slaissi. Quark does a little dance to reset his feet.
Quark throws a predictable looking body shot
and Slaissi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Slaissi connects with a nice looking jab.
Slaissi misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Quark.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Slaissi scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Quark doesn't seem bothered though.
Bimbo Slaissi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Slaissi steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Quark.
Slaissi has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.
Slaissi connects with an inside leg kick.
Slaissi scores with a jab. Quark acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Quark closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

and Slaissi counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Quark is rocked!
Quark chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Slaissi can pounce on him.
Quark throws a right hand that misses
and Slaissi counters with a stiff right hand.
Oh Quark is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Quark gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Slaissi points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Quark wakes up just in time to hear Slaissi thank his coaches in the post fight interview.
