PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Finlay Standifer (ranked 1434 p4p, 1574 weight class) and Dusty Sleeth (ranked 205 p4p, 213 weight class). Dusty Sleeth is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Finlay Standifer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dusty Sleeth!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Igor Prikhodko and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sleeth will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Standifer misses with a wild body shot.
Standifer missing with a left hand there. Sleeth was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Sleeth darts in looking for a takedown but Standifer gets double underhooks and turns Sleeth into the cage.
Standifer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Dusty Sleeth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sleeth throws a strike but Standifer rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Standifer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sleeth has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Standifer has managed to get both his arms back between Sleeth's legs - danger averted.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sleeth pulls Standifer in to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sleeth takes one to the chin there.
Standifer ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Sleeth moves away.
Sleeth fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sleeth shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Standifer sprawls well. Standifer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sleeth gets slowly back to his feet.
It looked like Standifer was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Sleeth.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Sleeth fails with a takedown attempt.
Standifer was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Standifer scores with a crisp jab that stopped Sleeth in his tracks.
Sleeth takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Sleeth takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Standifer was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

Sleeth changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Standifer tries to avoid it but Sleeth manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Standifer to the ground. Standifer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Sleeth gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Standifer slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Standifer has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Sleeth is looking for a triangle but Standifer pushes his legs off easily.

Standifer looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Standifer is looking to wear down Sleeth with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.

Standifer shoots in looking for a takedown. Sleeth tries to sprawl out of it but Standifer keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sleeth manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Sleeth fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Standifer avoids it really well and circles away.

A short body shot lands from Standifer as the two fighters clinch.

Standifer lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Sleeth.

Sleeth jumps guard but Standifer turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Standifer lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Sleeth or not.

Standifer has clasped his hands together around Sleeth's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Finlay Standifer overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Standifer scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sleeth to see if he's OK.
Standifer is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Sleeth's shoulder. That is not cool.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Standifer's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
