Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aubrey Grant (ranked 304 p4p, 324 weight class) and Chike Obi (ranked 48 p4p, 51 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Aubrey Grant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chike Obi!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Chris Edwards and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grant thows a body kick. Obi tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Grant.
Obi on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Decent striking displayed by Grant there.
Obi stuns Grant with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Grant sizes up Obi with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Grant. Obi shrugs it off though.
Obi misses with a straight right.
Grant throwing a counter right hand but Obi manages to avoid it.
Grant throws a hook but Obi avoids it easily.
Grant looks to land a right hand but Obi moved out of range.
Grant keeps Obi at a distance using the push kick.

Obi throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Obi has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Grant.

Grant misses with a hook. Obi ducked under it nicely.
Obi will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Grant connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Obi throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Obi throws an overhand right that lands on Grant's shoulder, as Grant tries to avoid the shot.
Grant scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Grant fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Grant connects with a nice looking jab.
Grant misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Obi.
Obi swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
A punch lands to the side of Obi 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Grant throws the left hand but Obi avoids the punch easily.
Aubrey Grant seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Grant pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
A little jabbing left from Obi on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Obi misses with a hook
and Grant counters with a left to the body.

Grant gets a clinch.

Obi pulls Grant into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Obi not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Grant avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Obi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Grant can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Obi working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Grant doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Grant manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Obi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Grant defends well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Grant is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Obi trying to keep a closed guard but Grant is proving a slippery customer.

Obi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Grant defends well.

Obi has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Grant is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Obi.

Obi is trying to control but can't.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Obi has his foot on Grant's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Grant works his way back into a safe position though.

Obi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Grant can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Obi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Grant is aware though and is defending well.

Grant is fighting to break Obi's control of his arms but Obi is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Obi lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Grant at a distance.
A solid leg kick lands there for Grant.
Grant lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Obi chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Grant can pounce on him.
Grant throws a jab but it's blocked by Obi.
Obi tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Grant was well out of range. Poor timing from Obi.
Grant was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been told by Grant's head coaches at Hammer House of Horror that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Grant throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Grant cracks Obi with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Obi takes one to the chin there.

It seemed like Obi was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Grant scores with a shot to the body.
Grant swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Obi.
Grant is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Obi can do to turn this around?
Both fighters circling a little - Grant finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Obi lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

It looked like Grant wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Grant throws a push kick but Obi slaps the foot to one side.

Grant lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Obi takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Grant throws a wild body kick that Obi sees coming a mile off.

Obi ducks under a wild hook from Grant.
Grant lands a nice shot that snaps Obi's head back.

Grant displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Obi throws out the jab.
Obi's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Grant throws a head kick that Obi semi-blocks.
Grant lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Obi takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Obi thows a left - swing and a miss!
Obi throws a good cross that connects.
Obi pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Obi crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Grant - the referee stops the clock and Obi gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Grant. Obi manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Obi counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Grant tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Obi paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Obi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Grant feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Obis jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Chike Obi has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Grant, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
