PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hero Primo (ranked 2836 p4p, 2149 weight class) and Sheikh Mahmut (ranked 130 p4p, 271 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Hero Primo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sheikh Mahmut!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Primo slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
A shot to the liver by Mahmut. Beautiful body shot.
Primo misses with a hook

and Mahmut counters with a crisp one two that drops Primo! Mahmut thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Primo to his feet! Primo is in big trouble!

Primo is rocked!
Primo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mahmut instigates a clinch.
Oh Primo is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Mahmut's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Primo looks to throw the jab but Mahmut is out of range.
Mahmut thows a body kick. Primo tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Primo seems to have got his legs back now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mahmut drives through with a takedown into guard.

Mahmut passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Primo!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mahmut has got his arm under Primo's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Primo has spun round into Mahmut's guard beautifully! Well done that man!
Primo wants to pass the guard but Mahmut is keeping the position.
Primo sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mahmut's guard.
Mahmut felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Mahmut really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Primo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Primo is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Mahmut has managed to free his arm - good work.

Mahmut trying to control but Primo postures up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mahmut is defending against the submission attempts here by Primo.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Primo is keen to just control but Mahmut is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sheikh Mahmut dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Primo has a couple of punches blocked by Mahmut.

Mahmut tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

Mahmut jumps guard but Primo turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Primo lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Mahmut or not.

Primo tries to work over Mahmut's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

It looks like Sheikh Mahmut has been cut.
Primo misses with a punch to the body.
Primo tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Mahmut's elbow.
Primo digs a right hand underneath Mahmut's ribcage. Mahmut let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Mahmut has clasped his hands together around Primo's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Primo wants to control but Mahmut postures up.
Primo manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Mahmut pushes Primo off looking to stand but Primo dives back in and keeps control.

Primo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Primo wants to work for an arm triangle but Mahmut is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Primo wants to control but Mahmut is keeping him busy.
Mahmut is pressing down on Primo's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Primo wants to control from the top but Mahmut keeps moving.
Mahmut not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Primo throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Primo is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.

Primo sizes up Mahmut with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Mahmut takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

The fighters circling - Primo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Primo tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Mahmut's elbow.

and Mahmut counters with a series of strikes. Primo will be more careful next time no doubt.

Primo lands a jab to the head.

That has opened up Sheikh Mahmut's cut even more.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mahmut slips a jab and a cross from Primo.
Sheikh Mahmut is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Mahmut looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Primo is fending him off so far but Mahmut persists. Nope, Primo circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Primo is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Primo is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Primo enables Mahmut to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Primo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Primo looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Mahmut is defending well. Primo quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Mahmut has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Primo celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.

After winning the bout, Hero Primo thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
