PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mono Loco (ranked 2053 p4p, 1630 weight class) and Tommy Heceda (ranked 194 p4p, 165 weight class). Heceda has chosen Hawaiian Kickboxer as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 34 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mono Loco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Tommy Heceda!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paulsen Ambrosius and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heceda paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Heceda misses with a looping right.
Heceda leaves Loco with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A little jabbing left from Heceda on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Loco doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Heceda counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Heceda throws a jab when Loco was well out of range.

Loco closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Heceda to the mat! Heceda manages to get full guard.
Loco wants to pass the guard but Heceda is keeping the position.
Heceda really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Loco. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Loco wants to control from the top but Heceda keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Heceda not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Heceda thows a left - swing and a miss!
Nice sprawl there from Heceda as Loco shoots in.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mono Loco. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Loco slips a jab from Heceda.
Loco shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Heceda as he jumps to the side.
Tommy Heceda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Loco closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Heceda is not content to let Loco control the position.
Loco staying calm.

Heceda dodges the ground and pound from Loco.
You can see the frustration on Heceda's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Loco is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Heceda has escaped the position, nice work there.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Loco tries to advance to mount but can't.

Loco thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Heceda is trying to escape the position but Loco is controlling the position.
Loco wants to lay and pray for a moment but Heceda keeps working.
Heceda is trying to control Loco's posture but Loco avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Loco is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Heceda's shoulder. That is not cool.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mono Loco will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Loco half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Loco closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Heceda quickly recovers to half guard.
Loco content to control rather than advance.
Loco's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Loco wants to lay and pray for a moment but Heceda keeps working.

Loco is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Loco prevents Heceda from improving his position.

Loco is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Heceda sees it coming and defends easily.
Heceda gets back to full guard.
Loco slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Heceda keeping moving, preventing Loco from controlling successfully.
Loco looking to sit in guard and control but Heceda gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Loco working for submissions but it's allowed Heceda to get to half guard.
Loco manages to get to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Loco bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Heceda's guard.

Loco trying to control the position from guard on top but Heceda is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Heceda trying to keep a closed guard but Loco is proving a slippery customer.
Loco wants to control from the top but Heceda keeps moving.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Loco trying to control but Heceda is working from the bottom.
Loco is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Heceda is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Loco's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Loco has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mono Loco dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Loco will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Heceda lands a glancing blow to the side of Loco's head.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Loco seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Heceda for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
The crowd cheers as Heceda lands an impressive looking overhand right. Loco doesn't seem phased though.
Heceda misses with a hook

so Loco counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Loco is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Loco slips nicely into half guard.

Loco is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Heceda tries to kick Loco off but Loco keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Heceda is looking to improve his position.
Mono Loco overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Heceda is defending against the submission attempts here by Loco.
Loco not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Tommy Heceda has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Mono Loco showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Loco, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
