PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sly Cheese (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Kerr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Sly Cheese has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sly Cheese!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin Kerr!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kerr darts in and clinches Cheese up against the cage.
Cheese creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Kerr jumps into guard, dragging Cheese to the mat.

Kerr manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Cheese looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kerr is fending him off so far but Cheese persists. Nope, Kerr circles away and we're back to standing.
Cheese throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kerr shoots for a double leg takedown but Cheese sprawls well. He's pushed Kerr's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A combination from Cheese does no damage.
Cheese doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Kerr decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cheese's guard.
Cheese tries to strike from the bottom.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Cheese working a defensive guard here.
Kerr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cheese works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kerr not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Kerr connects with a couple of short punches.
Cheese trying to strike off his back.

Kerr working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Kerr is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Cheese is pulling down on Kerr's head to control his posture.
Cheese on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Cheese tries to get out of the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Cheese doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Cheese striking off his back but it's not causing Kerr any problems.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Kerr scores with a takedown into Cheese's guard.
Cheese knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kerr on the ground.
Kerr trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kerr slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Cheese has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kerr has passed into side control.
Cheese is breathing heavily.
Cheese tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Kerr wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cheese keeps working.
Kerr prevents Cheese from escaping the position.
Cheese wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cheese checks a leg kick nicely.

Kerr drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Cheese is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kerr is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kerr is working Cheese over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kerr gets to his feet. Cheese looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Kerr bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Cheese sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Kerr sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Kerr is pressing down on Cheese's thigh, looking to free his foot. Cheese is holding on for now.
Cheese is doing well to control the position and prevent Kerr from advancing to side control.
Kerr is looking to take a break and control but Cheese is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cheese is looking for a sweep. Kerr is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kerr works his way into side control.
Kerr remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kerr moves in looking to clinch but Cheese pushes him off.
Cheese avoids the body shot from Kerr.
Cheese swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sly Cheese is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cheese looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Cheese shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Kerr regains half guard.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Kerr. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Kerr has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cheese is working away from the top position though.
Kerr moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Kerr pushes Cheese off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Kerr takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cheese shoots in but Kerr avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kerr.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A telegraphed right hand from Cheese misses the target.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cheese struggling a bit here.
Cheese is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Cheese tries to control but Kerr manages to take his back.
Kerr not allowing Cheese to control his hands.
Kerr cracks Cheese with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Cheese from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Kerr lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Cheese.

I would not like to be Cheese right now.

Kerr looking to break Cheese's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Cheese remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Kerr will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

You can see the frustration on Cheese's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kevin Kerr showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Cheese tries to bench press Kerr off him but Kerr keeps the position.
Kerr is looking to take a break and control but Cheese is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cheese wants to control but Kerr postures up.

Kerr is working to tighten is grip on Cheese's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Cheese has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Kerr is really squeezing tight and eventually Cheese passes out! Kerr breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
