PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rich Voss (ranked 2460 p4p, 3418 weight class) and Rick Segura (ranked 315 p4p, 395 weight class). Segura has chosen Mystic Rick - Press Conference as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Voss misses with a straight right.
Voss swings for the body but Segura moves out of range.
Segura ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
It seemed like Segura was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Voss misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Segura.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Segura has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Segura moves into range and clinches up with Voss.

I was talking to Voss's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Segura has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Voss clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Segura is not going to allow Voss to sit and survive in this position.

Voss is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Voss got a little sloppy there for a moment and Segura has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Voss has managed to get both his arms back between Segura's legs - danger averted.

Voss is looking to work some ground and pound but Segura has wrist control.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Segura holds on and takes a little breather.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Segura closes the distance and clinches.
Voss tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Voss misses with a short punch on the inside.
Segura tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Voss avoids it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Voss throws a strike but Segura rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Segura content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Voss has locked up a guillotine! Voss's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Segura is holding on here and Voss must be using up a lot of energy. Segura has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Voss gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
