PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Ruiz (ranked 2565 p4p, 3724 weight class) and Gary Garrison (ranked 319 p4p, 427 weight class). Ruiz comes to the cage accompanied by DB7 - Squid Game Drill. Garrison is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: 300 Violin Orchestra. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garrison throws a right hand that Ruiz ducks under and follows up with a left that Ruiz also avoids with ease.
Garrison looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Garrison tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

I was talking to Ruiz's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Ruiz is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Garrison can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Ruiz is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Garrison to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Garrison shrugs it off.

We've been informed that Garrison has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Ruiz is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Garrison has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Garrison!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ruiz is working to tighten his grip on Garrison's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Garrison has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Ruiz is really squeezing tight and eventually Garrison passes out! Ruiz breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
