Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Rome (ranked 3194 p4p, 6083 weight class) and Van Peta (ranked 369 p4p, 481 weight class). Peta is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: O RetrĂ´ Ativo - HerĂ³is do Status Quo. Curtis Rome has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 13 - 3, fighting out of Amsterdam, Curtis Rome!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Van Peta!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rome shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Peta manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Rome stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Peta swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rome passes Peta's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Rome trying to pass the guard but Peta defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rome seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Peta does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rome moves nicely into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peta regains half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rome is looking for a kimura but Peta is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rome to get the leverage.

Rome is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Peta manages to get to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rome is looking to pass into half guard but Peta pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Peta is in guard.

Peta throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rome works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Rome manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Peta manages to get himself to full guard.

Rome slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Rome is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Peta knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Rome wants to take a breather but Peta manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Rome.

Peta defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Rome.
Rome wants to take his opponent's back but Peta doesn't allow it.
Peta is squirming around, avoiding Rome's attempts to control the action.
You get the feeling that Peta really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rome has hold of Peta's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Peta manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rome is looking to work his way around to Peta's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rome fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Peta tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rome sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Peta somewhat.
Rome was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Rome shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Peta as he jumps to the side.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Peta.

Rome is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at MMA Training and Sparring Buddies, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Peta working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rome's head.

Peta makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Peta is working Rome over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Rome lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Rome might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Rome postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Peta is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Rome, into his guard.

Rome wants to finish this one by submission but Peta is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rome.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Rome has managed to clinch.
Rome has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Peta after a bit of a struggle.

Rome is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Peta can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Well Rome has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
