PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Minatay Mibangon (ranked 24255 p4p, 24278 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 18 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Buut changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Mibangon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Mibangon parries the strikes from Buut easily there. Buut is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mibangon to escape.
Mibangon can't do much from the bottom here.
Mibangon is trying to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mibangon seems a little lost for a moment, as Buut dominates the positioning.
Buut in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Mibangon is trying to control Buut's posture but Buut avoids it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Buut shoots in for a double leg but Mibangon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Buut shoots in but no luck this time.
And Mibangon counters with a quick kick to the body but Buut blocks it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Buut steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Buut is trying hard to land a takedown here. Mibangon sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Mibangon attempts a counter takedown but Buut avoids it well and moves away.
Minatay Mibangon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walay Buut.

Buut is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Mibangon chips away with some ground and pound.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mibangon dives in and grabs Buut's left leg, looking for a takedown. Buut pushes down on Mibangon's head and hops out.
Buut replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Mibangon blocks it well.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Buut - that will leave a mark!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Mibangon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walay Buut dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Buut fails with the takedown
and Mibangon counters with a head kick. That will keep Buut thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Mibangon goes for a double leg but Buut avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Buut continues to drive forward.

Mibangon has clasped his hands together around Buut's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Buut gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Mibangon content to control rather than advance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Buut is looking to escape.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Mibangon is figuring out what he wants to do next.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No luck for Buut with that takedown attempt.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Mibangon.
Mibangon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Buut tries to avoid it but Mibangon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Buut to the ground. Buut escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Buut is trying to counter with his kicks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Minatay Mibangon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mibangon thumps Buut with a low kick.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Buut drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Buut is fighting to break Mibangon's control of his arms but Mibangon is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Buut controlling from the top position.
Let's hope that Buut has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Walay Buut will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mibangon pulls Buut in close to prevent any damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Buut stays in close to Mibangon's body and controls the position.
Mibangon utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mibangon is pulling down on Buut's head to control his posture.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Buut scores with a takedown into Mibangon's guard.

Buut throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mibangon is pulling down on Buut's head. It's preventing any offense from Buut, at least for the moment.

Walay Buut is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Walay Buut comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Buut has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
