Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vice Grips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Philip Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vice Grips!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Philip Power!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Alec Ball and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Power throws a head kick that misses.

Power moves into the clinch.
Grips tries to land a knee to the head but Power blocks with his arms.
Grips using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Power has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Grips tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Grips obliges.
Power works on Grips's body with a couple of short punches.

Power has picked Grips up - he's going for a ride! Power dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Power tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Grips is breathing heavily.

Power stands up out of the half guard.
Grips wants to clinch but Power slips to the side
and Power counters with a straight right hand.

Power gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Power avoids a wild elbow strike from Grips.
Grips blocks an elbow strike.
Grips with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Grips gets underhooks to prevent Power's takedown attempt.
Grips working Power over with knees to the body.
Power tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Grips avoids it.

Power has Grips pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Power pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Grips tumbling to the mat - Power dives into Grips's guard.

Power decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Grips, up you get!

and Power connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Power lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
An inside leg kick lands from Power.
Power fails to land with a series of punches.

Power drives through and clinches with Grips against the ropes.

Power escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Grips takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Grips wants to clinch but Power slips to the side

and Power counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Power.

Power pulls guard successfully.
Power is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Grips is controlling him.

Power wriggles free and stands up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Good leg kick by Power there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Power goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Power punishes Grips's body with a nice straight punch.
Grips chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Power can pounce on him.

Power gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Grips using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Power has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Power jumps guard but Grips stands there with Power around his waist. Power gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Power breaks from the clinch.

Power has Grips up against the ropes in a clinch.
Power is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Power jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Grips walks away with a smile on his face. Power gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Vice Grips has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Philip Power.
Grips pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Power throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Power scores with a leg kick.

Power rushes Grips and pushes him back against the ropes in a clinch.
Power crunches a lovely knee into Grips's ribcage.
Power managing to block the knees to the body from Grips.

Power has clasped his hands together around Grips's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Grips is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Power decides to stand back up. Power steps back and let's Grips get back to his feet.

Grips tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Power counters with a left and a right that stings Grips.

Power closes the distance and clinches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Grips has a couple of punches blocked by Power.
Power is pushing Grips up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Grips misses with a knee to the head.
Grips prevents a takedown attempt there.
Grips throws an elbow but it misses.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Power tries to stall but Grips uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Power jumps guard but Grips stands there with Power around his waist. Power gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Power wants to get back to striking at distance but Grips won't allow it.
Power lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Grips backwards.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Philip Power dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Grips tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Power holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Power goes for a takedown attempt but Grips pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Vice Grips is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Grips on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Power. Power obviously looking to wear him down.
Grips closes the distance but Power moves to the side
and Power counters with a left to the body.

Grips tries to keep at a distance but Power has taken the fight into the clinch.

Power breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Power has closed the distance and engaged Grips in a clinch.
Power is trying to drag Grips to the mat but Grips just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.

Power pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Power misses with the combination.
Vice Grips seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grips tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Power rushes Grips and presses him up against the ropes.
Power is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Power tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Grips smiles and moves away.
Vice Grips has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Philip Power.
Grips throws a sloppy head kick

and Power counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Power.
Power is trying to force a seperation but Grips has the dominant position.
Power tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Power escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A decent looking cross lands there for Power.

Power has Grips up against the ropes in a clinch.

Power jumps guard.
Grips has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Power has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Grips off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Power. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

A frustrated look appears on Power's face as he tries to break the clinch.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

and Power counters with a stiff right hand.
Grips takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

and Power moves into the clinch.
Grips keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Power's efforts to push away.
Vice Grips has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Grips throws an elbow but it misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Philip Power comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Power has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
