Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Smith (ranked 3933 p4p, 5252 weight class) and Joe D Amato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe D Amato is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryan Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe D Amato!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
D Amato throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
An attempted straight right counter from Smith misses the target.
D Amato lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by D Amato.
D Amato swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smith thinks about countering with a head kick.

D Amato tries to sprawl but Smith drives through with a takedown into half guard.

D Amato manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
D Amato throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Smith counters with a straight right hand.
Horrible takedown attempt by Smith or perhaps it was just good defense by D Amato, which made it look bad.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that D Amato has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Smith closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. D Amato did well to prevent Smith getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith wants to lay and pray for a moment but D Amato keeps working.
Smith is looking to stall here but D Amato recovers full guard.

D Amato looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Smith passes into half guard.
Smith winds up and cracks D Amato with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
D Amato is not content to let Smith control the position.
Smith is stalling here. D Amato is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Smith seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and D Amato has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

D Amato decides to stand back up.

Smith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smith lands in his opponent's guard.
Smith is in close to D Amato's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Smith knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for D Amato on the ground.

Smith is really struggling to control D Amato but he's trying to hold on to the position.
D Amato wants to stand up but Smith is controlling him.

Smith looking to sit in guard and control but D Amato gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Smith is striking from the bottom but D Amato uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
Smith trying to hold on to D Amato's head to control him but D Amato postures up.
D Amato looks to land a strike but Smith avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

D Amato not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Smith is wriggling around but D Amato manages to pass to half guard.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Joe D Amato dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Smith misses the shot to the body.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as D Amato sprawls well. D Amato wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.
A head kick from D Amato lands but Smith takes it in his stride.

and D Amato counters with a stiff right hand.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says D Amato as he avoids it easily.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smith fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging D Amato to the ground. Smith is now in D Amato's guard.
Smith lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Smith stands and steps away. D Amato gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
D Amato tries a head kick but it misses.

Smith will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
D Amato fails with the takedown.
Smith closes this distance looking for a takedown but D Amato circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
D Amato tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range.

and Smith counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
D Amato keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.

D Amato uses the cage to get back to his feet.
D Amato has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
D Amato leaves Smith with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Smith takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Smith shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. D Amato manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

D Amato manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Smith tries to clinch but D Amato moves out of range.
D Amato is looking for the big counter here.
D Amato stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and D Amato wants it to stay on the feet.
D Amato shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Smith but Smith pushes him off and we're back to square one.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Smith.
D Amato tries to clinch but Smith moves out of range.
No joy there for D Amato, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Smith changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Smith shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

D Amato has his feet on Smith's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

and Smith counters by moving into the clinch.

Smith jumps guard and drags D Amato to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

The fighters circle momentarily. D Amato darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Smith fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
D Amato tries to counter by closing the distance.
D Amato connects with a body shot that sends Smith's belly button to the back.

D Amato has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.
A right handed body shot lands from Smith.
Smith has D Amato pressed against the cage, preventing D Amato from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Smith manages to break the clinch.
Smith is trying hard to land a takedown here. D Amato sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ryan Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
D Amato tries a head kick but it misses.
D Amato throws a left and a right that both miss

and Smith counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Smith.

D Amato is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

D Amato is trying to break the clinch but Smith is controlling him.

Smith has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed D Amato clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
D Amato looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
D Amato wants to escape the position.
Smith looking to hold on to the position here but D Amato rolls and ends up regaining guard.

Smith prevents D Amato from getting back to his feet.

D Amato is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.
Smith keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of D Amato's head.

Smith on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Smith tries to get out of the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
It looks like D Amato is going to stand back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith trying to hold on to D Amato's head to control him but D Amato postures up.
Smith is looking for a sweep. D Amato is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
D Amato misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Smith appears to be looking for a big counter.
Ryan Smith has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Joe D Amato is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
D Amato falls off balance throwing a combination

and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. D Amato fights it but they end up in guard.

Joe D Amato comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
